Question Why no Nokia E71 phone "online"?

I am thinking of going with the Nokia E71 but have a few questions. How is this phone for surfing the web? I know it doesn't have the largest display but can you do things such as watch YouTube and use GPS etc...?

Also... are there lots of APP options for this phone? (either paid or free)

One more thing.... why is the phone not listed "online" at ST?

    Thanks in advance

You can work around the E71s limitations. Use the YouTube app for that. Use Opera Mini for browsing.

This phone is on & off ST's site depending upon availability and also for the particular market whose zip code you entered. It is usually on WM's site.

You can get APPs but it is nothing at all like the Android / iPhone world.

It's a much better phone than I expected…really great call quality too. I was able to reduce the voice compression during calls with an option. I loaded in a call recorder that avoids beeps and is automatic for certain callers. It can be faster than a touch screen phone at certain things if you set it up properly, due to the programmable hard keys.

If I get a chance I will post some screenshots. DONE.

Here are…custom home screen showing 14 Apps…Opera Mini Tabs…YouTube…iPhone style texting App (ThreadSMS Pro)...

Try looking on Walmart.com for the phone.

Sent from my Straight Talk HTC Inspire using the Howard Forums app

WalMart on-line has a MUCH better price, you can get cashback from various sites (shop Discover, etc.) shipping is .97 or free and you get the best place to return anything in the country.

Tracfone is extremely secretive with in their companies. I don`t think the employees are even told what is going on. Almost no information leaks out from them, on purpose.

Thanks, sjmarcy! Got to try ThreadSMS Pro! How did you get the custom home screen? I can only put six shortcuts on mine.

Since Symbian phones are no longer on the tip of the tongue of everyone you meet…you need to do some legwork. Googling and trying things out. Going to OPDA and having their site sign apps for you at times.

I use one of several versions of VHome to mess with my main screen.

It has various hard-key short cuts. For instance I unlock the keyboard by double clicking on the Red-End key. I toggle apps by hitting end for much easier multitasking compared to pressing and holding the Home key and then scrolling and then selecting. Much faster.

I also loaded in a Class 10 (stock is class 2, 1/5 the speed) memory card. This helps at times when the stock card would bottle neck.

I have an App to manage the experience of those who call me, individually. Custom messages or busy signal or straight to VM or call forwarding on a per call basis. A no-beep automatic call recorder.

As delivered the E71 is clunky but some of the clunks can be smoothed out or eliminated to a degree.

Like I said, the phone turn out to be better than I expected. And it's build quality is excellent. I think it is quite a good buy considering the bleeding edge passed it by and it has that magic SIM card.

@ Melissa_d: Straight Talk’s Nokia E71 is probably the best phone Straight Talk has to offer at the moment. Out of the box the phone surfs the web at 3G speeds, able to watch YouTube videos, and has a GPS Navigation app. Nokia’s app store is made available with paid and free apps however the selection is limited. The phone is not listed on ST’s website because they’re out of stock at the moment. Currently, if you buy from Walmart.com it’s $170. Just opt for the in-store pick up and you can receive it the same day ☺ And as you can see, sjmarcy has customized his e71 to his liking! Straight Talk’s Nokia e71 also has that magical “open” sim card so if you get bored with the e71 you can “upgrade” to any unlocked or AT&T phone of your choosing and still pay $45 a month for Unlimited Everything plan *.

@sjmarcy: mad props to you with customizing your e71. I was impressed with what you did to your phone and the pics you showed to proof it! BTW, what camera did you use?! (Quality is amazing! I know it's NOT the e71, LoL). I too have the e71 but got it for it’s magical sim card ;-)

Thanks those are just quickie-pics though. Camera = Canon S90 (now S95) although I am a Nikon man for DSLRs. Remember something about photography…it's like cooking. If your girl friend makes you a nice dinner…it was her mad skills and not which frying pan she used…so don't ask! ;-)

I LOVE MY NOKIA E71! It does everything I want PLUS more.
I got the best deal online at Walmart. My local Walmart had them in stock for about $220.

Thanks guys for all the input. I am either gonna go with the Nokia E71 or I was thinking about maybe using BOOST and trying their ANDROID equipped "prevail".

The monthly cost will be about the same, although I am tempted by the android "smartphone".

This one (for me) is a tough call. I'll continue to look into this and do my homework.

    Thanks again

You can't really lose with either option. If you try one and don't like it, your phone can be easily and quickly resold on your local CL or whatever. I'd look into actual network coverage in your area. In mine Boost / Sprint is a decided second to ST's AT&T and Verizon.
