greetings everyone...attenpting to swith to walmart family plan by using my old att phone...can anyone assist with obtaining free access code? Thank you all in advance

There are no access codes for GSM phones. You might be thinking about CDMA phones. If the phone is locked to the current network, you have to get it unlocked before you can use it on another network. You have to request the unlock code from the carrier to which the phone is locked. Once the phone is unlocked, you simply insert the SIM card from the new carrier. You may have to configure the phone for data and MMS.
