Actually they are releasing the GS2 variant called the Stratosphere alongside the Bionic. You will see on August 29th that it is in fact a Galaxy S2 variant and it launches on the 8th I can pretty much say this with 99% certainty at this point.

To answer your other question about what constitutes a different phone. I don't know surprise me. I don't want the LTE version of the Atrix in September. I want something fresh and new. How about a new version of blur or no blur perhaps even a larger better quaality qHD pentile that's not in everyone of their phones. Id even settle for the same size screen. Slap a gig of ram and wipe out the bloattop. That would be fresh. I could get into that. I think a lot of moto fans would like that product.

I don't make phones but surprise us Moto. Quit rewrapping the same old tired package and passing it off as new.

Do you also realize the Bionic is bigger than the Atrix and all reports are that the screen is better quality as well. The Bionic will have 1 gig of Ram. and if by "bloattop" you are referring to Webtop, its been known for months that if you aren't using it then it has no effect on how the phone runs.
So basically, everything you are saying moto needed to do is something that they did. So now can it be considered a different phone? Or is doing everything still not enough?

I just dont see what the naysayers, other folks see about the Bionic. I was gonna post some stuff but soapinmouth and tdizzel pretty much said what I was gonna say...lol

I miss the Shadow/Droid X1 thread...and cant wait til previews, reviews of the Bionic come out.

Actually I don't at all get what you're saying. Can you explain how exactly is the Bionic a clone? You mentioned earlier what Moto should have done to make the Bionic different and I explained how they did all those things, so I have no idea why you still insist that its a clone. Nothing exciting and fresh? Been there done that? Exactly who has done dual core LTE with 1 gig of RAM, and the new non-Blur UI? And how is releasing a phone with those things before anyone else considered releasing it late in the game? Nothing you are sating is making any sense at all.

I believed at one point too, but the Stratosphere simply isn't a GS2. It's the crappy leaked LTE slider that we saw a month ago. There hasn't been a single leak about a Verizon GS2. It's not going to release in September.

So a phone with an entirely different processor, form factor, and network capability is still a clone of the Photon or the Atrix in your eyes? I'm pretty sure that you haven't thought this through fully. The Bionic is almost entirely different from the Atrix and Photon, with the exception of the UI and WebTop.

Why should the Bionic be cancelled? Maybe with Tegra 2 it should have released in May, but with the new OMAP chip and 1GB of RAM, this phone is going to be awesome. It will have one of the most advanced spec sheets possible once the release date rolls around. The only thing that I could complain about is the UI, but I'm sure that people will figure out a way to load CM7 or some other AOSP ROM onto it in no time.

What else could Motorola have done (other than get rid of their UI) that would have made this phone more enticing to you?

I get the feeling someone skipped class the day that it was announced that the origional bionic WAS scrapped (Etna) and that the new Bionic (Targa) which was not supposed to release until much later this year took its place and was accelerated. So how can the Targa be a clone of a completely different phone (i.e. Atrix)?????? You might be able to pass that comment off with the Etna but you are off base in reference to Targa.

oh i get it there all made by motorola of course there clones ...... its funny nobody is bashing htc samsung apple lg for not haveing a phone out with daul core lte. yet moto is about to drop one FIRST before all the competition and some how there late to the game ?????? the game starts whenever the first phone hits the market not before . till some manufacturer has one for sell its all just speculation .

another thing everyone acts like this phone will be out dated as soon as it hits just cause there is other rumored devices coming out. by that logic every device ever launched is out of date . i mean some of you need to really look at your posts and think before you hit reply .

Last I heard, the Stratosphere was the lame Epic remake.

It probably is, but there is a press conference for the GSII the 29th. That is certain as the image shows a II and was even labeled samsung_galaxy_II or something.

Seems to be the only the only thing that would give a VZW Bionic a run for its money unless you hold out for the fall/winter phones, Vigor, Prime, etc.

Ok. In my personal opinion a processor doesn't make for a whole different phone. The Atrix and Photon are essentially the exact same phones but people will argue that its got a kickstand its corners are cut and its got WiMax. Well ok, if that makes it an entirely different phone so be it. What seperates the Atrix and Bionic? One runs the Tegra 2 the other runs the TI OMAP. I personally don't count the difference in screen size a difference for the simple fact they are the same exact screens i.e lcd pentiles.

If you think .3" is cutting edge, new and fresh you are a better man than me. Radios don't count. That's tech specific to carrier. If you were to throw an LTE radio into the Atrix what would you have? A smaller Bionic with a fingerprint scanner.

Its not like the Bionic has a SAMOLED + or some other new qHD screen not seen on 4 of their other devices, no weptop, a whole other version of blur and clocked at 1.2+ GHZ. I don't know how to make it anymore clear to you. If you think the Bionic is a breath of fresh air my hats off to you.
