Good Contest! I would be up for it myself, but I don't own an Android.

With the upcoming launch of WIND’s Kitchener-Waterloo coverage (and possibly other areas), I’d like to get the coverage map (http://www.coveragemapper.com/map.php?mccmnc=302490) updated as fast as possible.
To make this happen, I’m going to run a contest for users of Coverage Mapper. Winners will receive a one year subscription to HowardForums’ Gold Membership, which includes:
- No Advertisements
- Premium Forum Skins
- Your own Avatar
- Your own User Title
- A Gold Membership Badge
- Access to The Far Side forum areas.
There will be at least five prizes. At least three will go to the people who have collected the most points, and at least two will go to random people with at least 30 points.
To enter the contest, you need at least version 0.7.10 of the Coverage Mapper app (https://market.android.com/details?i...2011summerwind), and a device running Android 2.0 or higher. From the main screen of the app, press the menu button, select Settings, and at the very bottom, tap “Google Account”. It will pop up with all the Google accounts you have registered on the device. Select one of them. This email address will be included with all data you upload. It will not be used for anything other than this contest, and your ability to track how much data you’ve uploaded (still needs to be implemented on the site). If at any time you want to stop including your email address, you can come back to the Settings screen, and tap the “Google Account” option, which will remove your email address from all future data.
To earn points, you need to log data in new locations. A location is defined as 0.001 degrees of latitude by 0.001 degrees of longitude.
- You will earn four (4) points for logging data that shows at least 0 out of 4 bars in a location that had never been logged prior to midnight (UTC) on July 1 2011.
- You will earn four (4) points for logging data that shows at least 0 out of 4 bars in a location that only had “no service” data prior to midnight (UTC) on July 1 2011.
- You will earn one (1) point for logging data that shows at least 0 out of 4 bars in a location that had not been logged since midnight (UTC) on February 1 2011.
The tentative closing date for the contest is August 31 2011, but this may be extended depending on when new areas are launched with coverage.
Data must be uploaded on or after July 1 2011 and within 24 hours of the contest close date for it to count towards the contest.
A web-based tracker of the top scores (anonymous) and the ability to check your own score will be added in the near future.

That's a shame. After version 0.8.0 of the Android app is released, I think I can end the "beta" stage (maybe call it 1.0.0 instead), and then I'll be a lot more comfortable working on other platforms. I just bought a MacBook Pro and an HTC Magic (for Android 1.6 testing), and I'll be grabbing a BlackBerry and iPhone when I start on those versions. I'm not sure which will come first. There's been a lot of BB request, and I have done some work on the app.
But for now, the contest is only for Android users. The leader board should be finished today, and if I've got time, the ability to check your own score too. There's already someone with over 600 points![]()
What about Blackberry!?!? ;(
I have an android but no wind sim, lol damn.
nice contest. someone has over 600 points already :O...thats crazy.
It appears I can no longer edit my original post, which is annoying.
Anyway, here's the anonymous leaderboard: http://www.coveragemapper.com/windsummer2011.php
I'm going to add a login feature so you can see what your score is.
Well there are two answers to that:
1. I picked that date because it's simpler to work with. It actually gives you an advantage, because if data was logged on July 3 and July 11, it counts this way. If I made the date July 10, that data wouldn't count.
2. There is some data logged before that update with my email address, but one of the next things I'm doing is highlighting my entry so it's obvious which one is ineligible to win.
