not looking to activate the phone, just collect the data then update over wifi.

    thanks
Something like a T-Mobile G1 or MyTouch 3G would probably be the cheapest. They're definitely the oldest devices. As long as it runs Android 1.6 (although 2.1 would be better), you'll be fine.

WIND is live in KW! It's a great place to earn a bunch of easy points. 4 points for every 0.001 degree by 0.001 degree location you visit.

Well I'm at the top of the scoreboard now. Is anyone going to overtake me?

Most parts of Gatineau are not yet mapped past Labrosse. Installed the coverage mapper app on my new Spice last week. Its funny to now see my points being mapped on my route to/from home (East of Labrosse). It makes it obvious now as to where I live..lol.

Just checked my ranking, and I'm already 14th - YAY. Hopefully I can increase that I as continue to map coverage of the "better" part of Gatineau

    Good luck.

I'm going to have to make a decision soon about when the contest ends. I might push it another month to try to get the rest of KW, Cambridge, and Guelph included, and maybe have another one once Barrie and other places launch.

Given the current state of WIND's network, I'm sticking with the end date of tomorrow. Less than two days to collect more data for the contest!

Is there a way you could make the tower markers smaller? Perhaps use "dots" instead of the current reverse tear shaped google markers. Dots would look much cleaner plus if there are a lot of towers in an area you wouldn't have to zoom in so far to see where the towers are located (see http://loxcel.com/celltower to see what I mean). Otherwise your map looks great.

I can look into it. The bigger challenge is finding a good grouping factor so that they group together as soon as they need to - no sooner, and no later.

Well, CC, since getting an Android phone two weeks ago, I've helped you color in most of the main streets within a mile or two from where I live. It's all yours now.
Thanks for all the work you do with the coverage mapper. It is appreciated!

I would hope that with the lighting up of Cambridge in the near future, the Kitchener area around Costco would also receive improved coverage.
I have full expectation of what will happen in the next few months!

Wouldn't the tower at 6666 Ellis Road (which can be seen from the 401 if you know where to look - it is in the rear of the property)
be part of the 401 corridor system between Milton and K-W, London and Windsor coverages which Tony spoke about?
I forget when and where I read that a new tower was seen at the 401/402 junction.

I sort-of feel that a lot more is currently in the works than we hear about . . .

The script has been updated to stop counting points after the contest period.

Data bust be collected before the end of August (I'm using PST as a time zone here to be fair to everyone), and uploaded before the end of September 1 (again, using PST).

The person currently (and likely to remain in) third place (well, fourth technically, but since I don't count...) emailed me to decline the prize already, which has been indicated on the scoreboard.

Sometime on September 2, I will email the winners, asking them if they want the prize, and what their HowardForums username is. If any decline, the prize will be offered to either the next highest score, or another random person (based on who declined). Once I have the names, I'll arrange the gold memberships, and post the winners here.

There's a big gap between third and fourth now, so I don't see much changing there, but there's still plenty of time to get in on the random draw!

Yeah that cell site appears to be a new one owned by SBA which is great news.
