I forget when and where I read that a new tower was seen at the 401/402 junction.

I sort-of feel that a lot more is currently in the works than we hear about . . .
Oh definitely. But the towers aren't on yet, or at least not on at a usable power level. Even right at 8 and the 401, it's hit and miss whether I'll even have 0 bars of service right now. I actually just drove from Kitchener to Toronto, so I can definitely confirm that this is still the case.

Well I did the best I could mapping out the rest of Gatineau (Maloney between the 50 & boul. de l'aeroport, the 50 between Labrosse & boul de l'aeroport, and St Rene between l'hopital & cheval blanc) over the past month, which has placed me in 12th.

    What happens now?

Data bust be collected before the end of August (I'm using PST as a time zone here to be fair to everyone), and uploaded before the end of September 1 (again, using PST).

The person currently (and likely to remain in) third place (well, fourth technically, but since I don't count...) emailed me to decline the prize already, which has been indicated on the scoreboard.

Sometime on September 2, I will email the winners, asking them if they want the prize, and what their HowardForums username is. If any decline, the prize will be offered to either the next highest score, or another random person (based on who declined). Once I have the names, I'll arrange the gold memberships, and post the winners here.

I've been way too busy lately...

I just sent out emails to the top three people. If they all accept the prize and get back to me quickly (they have a one week deadline), the two random drawings will happen soon. If any of them decline, I'll email the next person. I don't want to do the random drawings until the top three people have been confirmed.

    Winners have been determined!

    The top three:
    1. dcorreia (17100 points)
    2. nuclearbroccoli (14768 points)
    3. aofe (9168 points)

    Random winners:
    • nwadams (3544 points)
    • TorontoColin (935 points)

You can see the full scoreboard at http://coveragemapper.com/windsummer2011.php. One of the top three declined their prize, so the fourth person got it, and two of the random winners declined their prizes, so I drew two more names.

I'm still working out the logistics on how to pay for other accounts' gold memberships (it's surprisingly hard to get a straight answer on this), but as soon as I can, all your accounts should be upgraded for a year.

Congratulations everyone, and thanks for helping map out WIND's coverage.

It was kind of fun mapping out Wind's coverage actually. Now I know where many of the weak spots are in Calgary, and I also realized that the coverage here is actually pretty damned good all things considered.

I had some issues getting everyone the gold memberships, but I think everything will be processed in the next few minutes. Congratulations again to the five winners!

I hope Wind techs look at that map. It's an incredibly useful additional tool for the new entrants. I mean, I'm sure they have their own, more detailed coverage maps, but without testing every street in the city (which isn't reasonable of course), this map is about the only way to see what the real world coverage looks like.

And also, YAY! I'm in gold!

I can't wait for a new tower in SW Calgary. I get reception at home, but its not strong and does bounce sometimes to EMERGENCY only, or WIND AWAY ... I'm in the deep SW near Spruce Meadows. I've been CoverageMapper'ing the SW for a couple of weeks now and on the LRT to downtown. That said I'm decently surprised with the overal WIND coverage so far. No more FIDO for me.
