Downloading pictures to PC from LG500G

First post, hope this has not been answered before...

I noticed that at the LG site, there are lots of driver and software downloads
for their phones, so that you can transfer photos (or data, I expect) to and from
    your PC.
However, I have not found one (a download) for the LG500G..

    So the questions are...
Is it possible to do it at all?
If you need a downloaded driver etc., is there one that works,
that may not be specifically labeled "lg500g"?
Do you need a memory card in the phone, so that the computer will
    recognize the phone?

I don't want to do it bad enough to go the bluetooth route, and
I'd rather not chew up minutes transfering pictures that aren't really
    all that important..

Thanks for any help, as you can see, this is my first post here.
    A very interesting site...

Go bluetooth. It's the cheapest way. I picked up USB's on ebay for $2 each. You can also do it with a USB cable but I haven;t done that.

Since that post last month, I have figured it all out.
I use the cable method (that was free)... it's a snap.
It just reads your card like a flash drive.
I uploaded pics of family and friends, to asscosiate them with their
    phone numbers.. neat feature.

Cheaper 'for me' as my computer does not have bluetooth........
    Kindle cord works great..........

Use a 1G micro disk, not 8G for LG 500

I finally had success getting my phone to recognize the smaller micro card. Previously had an 8G card in the phone, but it would not transfer pics from the phone to the card, nor would it recognize that I even had an external memory card. Spent $25 at Best Buy for a Datapilot w/transfer cable that the clerk assured me would work. It did not, and found out from Datapilot customer service that it was not compatible with LG 500 phone (even though the box said it would work with LG phones). Finally found a post on another site that stated using a smaller gig micro card should work. Switched out the 8G card with a 1G card ($8.53 on Amazon), and transferred pictures like a charm!

    dairydude,
Just FYI in case you need more space than a 1 GB, I used a Sandisk 4 GB card in my LG500G and never had any problems. Most Tracfones/Net10 phones seem to work fine with 4 GB or smaller. My EX124G worked with 16 GB (never tried higher than that) and smaller but my LG800G is limited to 4 GB and smaller.

    Hi Dan,
How does your PC recognize the micro card in your LG500G? I tried the USB cable method but I can't access the card, it just doesn't get recognized by my PC. Could it be that the USB cable I got from Amazon is only for charging (I do find that my LG500G shows a blinking battery charge symbol when I plug the cable in.)

Yes, that is exactly the problem. You have a charging cable. You need a data/charging cable to transfer data.

I'm not Dan, but in the interest of getting you an answer right away, I'll butt in. Unfortunately, there are two kinds of cable. Charging and data, or just charging. I think this is a terrible idea. Anyway, it has something to do with the way they're wired up. You have to make sure that the listing indicates data.

I don't think it has to say data. My cables are just "USB 2.0 cables" from a computer store. They didn't say anything about data or charging. (USB 2.0 being the version of the spec that supports 480Mbps"high speed" connections. USB 1.0 and 1.1 only support low and full speeds, at 1.5 and 12 Mbps)

The problem is when you buy a cable marketed for a phone, and more so if it mentions charging but not data. If the ad/listing doesn't explicitly call out charging I wouldn't expect it to mention data either.

As for the wiring, USB has 4 wires, 2 for power and ground and 2 for data (D+ and D-). The charging cables appear to only have 2 wires.

lmulieri, did the listing actually call it a USB cable? Was it listed for cell phones? All of these will be real USB cables, wired properly. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_nr_n_0?rh=n%3A172282%2Cn%3A!493964%2Cn%3A54 1966%2Cn%3A172456%2Cn%3A172463%2Ck%3Amicro+usb+cab le%2Cn%3A464394&bbn=172463&keywords=micro+usb+cabl e&ie=UTF8&qid=1353093534&rnid=172463

Even worse are the new devices like the iPad2 and Nexus7 that look for the higher current charging ports. So cables are made to trick the device into thinking it's connected to a charging port.

    Hi Lou.
You already got some answers, the only thing I might add,
is when you plug your phone into your PC, the phone screen
should ask you if you want to connect to mass storage...
If it doesn't, then it isn't working ....

    take care. Dan
