I want a prepaid plan with unlimited textin and data, with about 1,000 minutes. 500 minutes if they include unlimited nights and weekend. I need coverage to be reliable because i go to college and i need to be able to use it there as well as in NYC. i use t-mobile postpaid plan now and although it's not the greatest as my school, i can still manage. i would prefer using verizon if theres a MVNO thats more affordable, but sprint is good at my college too.
I'm willing to pay 300$ for a good phone, would prefer BYOD. i can only afford about $50 a month for the plan. any suggestions?
Try out your same phone on the T-Mobile prepaid or Simple Mobile $50 unlimited plans and then unlock it and try it out on at&t's $50 unlimited plan. If both fail to meet your expectations then consider buying a new phone for Boost $50 unlimited or Beyond Talk plans from Virgin Mobile. Boost and Virgin require Sprint native coverage and you're not going to be able to bring your old device with them. VM BT does not offer N&W or M2M, but those with the LG Optimus V on the $25 plan are getting 300 incoming minutes plus unlimited outgoing minutes over WiFi or strong 3G with the netTALK app from the Android Market, Skype and Google Voice help too.
Warning: The "big" guy (AT&T, Verizon, etc) are moving off unlimited plan - not mentioned it's harder to find unlimited
data for prepaid companies. Do look at plans that have high limit data. There are plans with unlimited text (if that
what you want). Check out Page Plus Cellular TNT plan (<- forget exact name).
Not many prepaid company have unlimited data! You are like me. I don't use much talking minutes but we both use a lot a data. I am with Virgin Mobile. I am on the Unlimited plan for unlimited data for $35.00 with my blackberry 8530. But now, as of today, Virgin mobile plan has went up. I would suggest Virgin Mobile ($45 plan that includes unlimited data, text, mms, email but minutes is 1200). I have had T-mobile but fees are included(add on fees if you don't have automated bank payment, taxes). Virgin mobile plan is what you pay no fees included. I buy my minutes from calling mart then add vm pin on to my account. So I pay no fees or tax!
I didn't buy my phone from Virgin mobile site or radio shack, it's more higher. I bought my phone from Walmart. Blackberry 8530 are on sale at walmart for $99.88 compared to vm sites is $179.99.
Virgin USA's rates for Blackberry users have not increased, because the new plans include Blackberry server access, which was a $10.00 extra charge before. Blackberries now use the exact same plan as other phones. That offsets the increase in the basic plan, so 300 minutes and unlimited data with BIS is still $35.00.
Interesting, I am in a similar situation as well, except I sometimes use allot of minutes as well. I am thinking real seriously about straight talk. I know there data is not really unlimited, but since noone else is either, I am surprised they are not mentioned here a all?
FYI The sprint cdma network does not work for me, so I am limited there.
The only MVNOs that I know to have unlimited data are Straight Talk and Simple Mobile. There's a thread in the Straight Talk forum on finding the right phone that has unlocked SIM to work with iphones and Android phones. Both services works with iPhones. Although you'll need to unlock for Simple. Another thing, there's no true unlimited. They all cut you off at some point for being a hog.
How much data do you need? If it is alot then for 75 a month you can get verizon prepaid 450 min no text because i use the google voice app exclusivly for my text. I paid 300 for th droid 2 global. I keep my google voice on the front page and not the texting app. The gv app uses data instead of texts. With voice you get mobile to mobile and nights and weekends included. It is not a true mvno just verizons prepaid arm. I buy cards at callingmart so i get a discount from bonus codes and no sales or additional taxes like postpaid. I have netflix and hulu on mine. They have truly unlimited data. You can also tether via usb without rooting with easy tether. I get good speeds when i tether. Where i live i have found that virgins data speed is usually under 500kbps wheres verizons is always over 1 mbps and side by side triumph vs droid 2 i usually get triple the speed on vzw.
I use a lot of data because my wifi at home goes out several times a week. The droid 2 is a really nice phone. But on a droid you will use 100 megs by accident.
A cheap option would be page plus 30 dollar plan with 1200 min 2000 texts and 100 mb of data and put a smartphone on it (make sure it has wifi) and use the wifi you have on campus.
