How dare you come into my pentile-bashing thread and state something positive about it?! The reviewer probably has really poor eyesight and/or is a Moto fanboy anyway...

I got to use the Droid 3 and honestly the screen is better than the Droid 1 or 2 with still image, but when scrolling or viewing white text on a black background it looks very blurry. It doesn't have the color depth of any of Samsung's amoled displays so it may look "washed out" to some.

Having 20/20 vision, the screen is acceptable for most uses, but I can see why people are desiring better for high end smartphones. As a side note, the worst display would have to be on the Thunderbolt.

A phone is only fun when you can modify it anyway you please.

The Verizon UI....unhackable? I think not

Actually the DX2 and D3 displays are very color accurate from a saturation standpoint while the Samoled + screens are over saturated.

This is like somebody on the Food Network saying that headcheese is delicious. Simply lazy editorial. They read qHD screen and with a knee jerk reaction they say the screen is very nice. Lazyness. They needed to get a review out and did a hack job.

I agree with this statement, which is why I think everyone got so angry about all of this in the Targa thread. No amount of facts in the world can change the way you physically view something. I know I thought the colors looked a lot brighter and more accurate on both the DX2 and the D3 than on my OG Droid. Loading Engadget side-by-side, I prefer the colors on the D3. I will give it to you guys as far as the pixelation, it's something that's noticeable but something I, myself, can get over. As much as I want to like the amoled screens, they just look very cartoonish to me. It's great for playing some games and movies, but I don't really use my phone for that stuff.

I agree too. However, I happen to like the over-saturation. I guess I like bright colors. Also, on the GS2 anyway, there is a setting that allows you to tone down the saturation for better accuracy, if that's your thing. Unfortunately, the Charge does not have that capability.

Ok, so i just spent about half an hour at the Verizon store looking at the X2 and the D3. I moved the phones around quickly, looked at some black text, some color websites, stared as hard as i could at the battery icon, zoomed in and out, scrolled as quickly as it would scroll, etc. I must say that I don't get it. I went in knowing what everyone says is so bad about pentile and that's what I looked for and just didn't see it. I thought both screens were absolutely gorgeous. I really don't see what the problem is supposed to be. I saw no pixelation, but excellent colors. Can someone please help me out so i can go back and truly discover what is so wrong with the screens so i can bash too. I feel left out

I will say this, I used the Droid 3 again today and I figured out why it looked washed out. I was using the app drawer to test the screen, and I realized that the dark grayish-blue gradient background makes the screen look dull. I tested LauncherPro with the black background and the icons looked a lot cleaner and clearer. Maybe Motorola will fix this in the future or we can root the phone and change it to black ourselves.

Overall, the screen is not as bad as everyone is making it out to be. If it weren't for the Droid Charge, I probably would have been impressed by the screen.

Which is why the SGSII is such a nice device. It really seems like Samsung thoroughly thought a lot of things through in the way they designed the phone. Something you don't see... ever.

Yep, based on all the reviews and everything I know about the GS2, it's the perfect phone for me and the one I covet above all others...IF it's released as a 4G unit, that is.

You must not have good eyes. Look at the battery and bars to start with. You can see the pixelation its very obvious and no you do not need to hold it up to your face.

If you don't have good eyes you probably wont notice it and it will look nice to you.

I'm being very serious that when you notice it it gets to be very irratating because you then notice it constantly.

well, I do wear glasses, but with my glasses my vision is actually 20/15. I stared and stared and stared at that battery icon and i got nothin. I held it up to my face, held it at a normal distance and held it at an extended distance and I got nothin. I tried very hard to notice something...anything...but all i saw was a gorgeous display. Maybe the lenses on my glasses are counter-pentile and filter it all out. Maybe everyone should get counter-pentile glasses so we can all be happy

And why must I not have good eyes? I went to the VZW store with a friend and he has good eyes and he didn't see anything either. Of course I neglected to point out to him what to look for, and he only held the D3 for a minute or 2, but still...I'm starting to think it's all made up

Nothing really lacks sharpness as I have said many times. It is really just a grain/screened effect in solid color areas. I find most edges and things where you notice sharpness plenty sharp on these, although maybe not QUITE as sharp as my OG droid or of course the iPhone4, but way sharp enough. It's the solid colors that just don't look solid that actually bugs me. I could see some not noticing this though when everything is so sharp.

Agree with all the comments on color reproduction also. I find it's probably quite neutral to maybe VERY slightly over saturated. I don't mind less saturation myself and find the neutral to maybe a bit under saturated OG Droid screen fine. I may prefer color rendering of these pentiles, but don't think that couldn't be duplicated on a standard IPS.

Ha ha, no, definitely not. Everyone's different. Some people can see things that others can't. Just like some people can do things that others can't, some people can solve things that others can't, etc. Think about a genius mathemetician...they just comprehend numbers, symbols and formulas in a way that most people cannot. Folks like jasaero and myself are pentile prodigies. It's a curse. You are fortunate to be as you are and I envy you, as this is one of those cases where ignorance truly is bliss. How do ya like them apples?
