looking at chatr, wind any other provider for my aunt
Hey all
My aunt is with pay as u go on rogers and pays the $100 for the year. She was looking at another company tht maybe offers unlimited calling. doesnt use data and very little text. She would need something cheaper with a fair amount of mins and rogers plans start at $30 with very little min wise. She was looking at the $25 plans from those competitors above. Lives in richmond hill. travels to markham, toronto (vic park & Eglinton ave area, sometimes downtown) maybe brampton. any ideas what would work for her and can she use her rogers phone on those networks?

The phone that she has... Will not work at wind nor mobi due to their AWS signal type. But there may be a chance that her cell will work with chatr GSM signal type. Some of the rogers phone works with Fido and chatr without unlocking them.

The 25.00 Chatr plan will work just fine. I have a chatr plan that we use for employees that come from Europe for a tour and such and its been perfect. Call quality clear just as you would expect it from rogers and excellent coverage. Top up are easy, unlimited calling.. all in all its great.. just no data for now. You can even activate a rogers Sim for chatr I am told so the BST has the Sims for 10.00 or less so its a good option to try. 3g voice, great coverage why not give it a go?

Is it possible to activate actual rogers sim card for a chatr account?
You can use a Rogers phone on Chatr and you do not have to unlock it. I have used several, and no problems at all. You cannot use a Rogers phone on Wind or Mobilicity.
I have used Wind/Mobilicity and Chatr extensively and if you do not need data, the only choice is Chatr.
I have never had one problem with Chatr. I cannot say that for the others.
ok thanks. its for my aunt and she'll only need the calling and texting and even the texting is minimal. she doesnt need it for a couple months still since she still has balance on her roger pay go line but will keep a heads up on it for sure.
If your aunt has an existing Rogers phone then Chatr would be a no-brainer, assumes she is within the Chatr Zone most of the time. You do not need to unlock Rogers phone to go on Chatr and vise versa. Now if she goes to the cottage country every weekend then it may not be a good choice. But if she remains in Toronto, Vancouver or other Chatr zones most of the time then that would be a good fit for her. Think of it this way - Chatr is exactly the same as Rogers from a technical standpoint (cell towers and signals), but the pricing structure is different.
The Verizon phone probably won't work as Verizon is CDMA and Rogers is GSM.
