Update!! OP's first step was correct but after intensive research online, you actually have to dial *22804 to update roaming list after the PRL upload so the metro will download the newest PRL for you. After that it will say "system update completed" then you can call 611 to verify if it's configured to metro.

Next step is the same, convert the ESN to MEID using that tool. Get someone or store to add it to inventory, then talk to a rep by dialing *228 to add the phone. You should be done at this point.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, I am new and tried to follow the guide here...
I done jail break, iphone browser, delete the old VZW310.prl and drag the metro.prl in there.

    Here's where I got stuck,
I tried calling *22801 it will keep prompting for VERIZON program not Metro, what am I doing wrong? Please advice!!
Have you found a solution to this problem? i seem to be having the same issues and cant seem to find anything about this anywhere..

You don't need to place any files anymore. No need to jailbreak either (disadvantage too since if you jailbreak its tethered for now in iOS 5)

    Skip all the steps

Just enable Voice Roaming in Settings > General > Network

Then initiate the Over The Air (OTA) metroPCS PRL Update (dial *22804 and choose option 5, Update Roaming Lists)

It should update the PRL to use metroPCS towers now, to confirm just dial *228 and see if you get metroPCS

Now you just need to get the MEID (not ESN, the ESN is the DEC value, to convert use a ESN Converter online, just google it) added into the metroPCS inventory. eBay is your best bet, it will cost you around $40-$50. You will need your security code for your account, usually the birthdate of the account holder

After that, you can activate the iPhone like any other metroPCS device. Just dial *228 and say switch phones if you have an existing account or set up one by following the instructions. You'll also need your security code for this process.

The proper OTASP initiation code is not always *22804, it depends on which block(s) metroPCS is licensed for in your market.

And as mentioned previously, if metroPCS uses AWS rather than PCS in your home market it won't work at all with any iPhone, since they don't support the AWS band.

    PRL Interpretations
    XFF's AlphaTag software
    Cellular and PCS License Maps

I also want to add in here that the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S flashed to metroPCS, just like any other metroFLASH phone, are eligible for the $25 unlimited everything plan (if you jumped in early enough, for the 4 lines for $100 deal), so no need to worry about having to upgrade and losing that $25 unlimited plan.

The $25 unlimited plan also includes 3G data, but as of now, there is still no way to get 3G/EDGE internet on metroPCS, without an appropriate CommCenter patch for iOS 5.0.1 and the ability to pre-create a custom firmware that allows for flexible editing with the APN and proxy settings.

There is no need to do that anymore, skip everything, read my second or third post.

By the way, the 310VZW.prl has been replaced by a carrier.prl file, and the Carrier Bundles use a different structure compared to iOS 4.
