I have PRL version 51081 here from PRL 51080 on my BlackBerry Bold 9650. Wonder what changes are in 51081 from 51080.

Digiblur, Anyway to see what changes Sprint did to this 51081 version and post it on your site? Thanks for taking the time you do there to list and post what changes in the PRL they do.

Wonder why the different PRL version #? Larry, Do you think it is due to the different phones?

No idea. Maybe Blackberries get a different version for some reason.

Not different phones but different classes of phones. Here's the current method to the madness:

21xxx = phones with the 800mhz SMR band support such as the EVO3D
606xx = typical CDMA EVDO phones
607xx = typical CDMA EVDO datacards
    50xxx = non-EVDO phones
51xxx = GSM capable worldphones (such as Photon, TouchPro 2, etc) not sure why they did this as GSM is not PRL driven.

I will compare 51081 against 60681 but if it was like xxx80 of both of them they were the exact same.

EDIT: I compared 21081 byte for byte to 60681 and the only differences are the version number I don't have 51081 to compare it yet.

I had to hand verify an error I noticed to make sure it wasn't in my code. I noticed that some Cricket SIDS lost their EVDO scan records but were still listed as EVDO enabled. Sure enough looking at the PRL they have those SIDs set to associate with a EVDO record but the EVDO record is no where to be found. Not sure how some phones will handle that when connected to those SIDs. Probably nothing, they just won't connect to EVDO since it doesn't know which subnet to connect to. Someone didn't check their PRL work before they rolled it out the "nationwide" door.

Any how....the changes are up on my website. http://www.batonrougebroadband.info

I have 11115 on my EPIC and 11114 on my EVO4G. Both are rooted- the EPIC updates with no issues (Using a rooted EH06 ROM/Modem), but the EVO won't update manually. But I've been using this ROM for a while (SynergyRLS2), so I doubt that it's had the PRL the whole time.

Could someone help explain this type of entry?

SID: 4145 - Sprint - Los Angeles San Diego CA - Priority: Same - Roaming Ind:Native
    1X Scan: PCS/50 PCS/25 PCS/200 PCS/100 PCS/75 PCS/350 PCS/925 PCS/325 PCS/375
    EV Scan: Sprint - 0084:0AC0(Same) - PCS/25 PCS/50 PCS/150 PCS/475 PCS/550 PCS/625 PCS/650 PCS/375

SID: 2 - Verizon Cellular - LOS ANGELES CA - Priority: Same - Roaming Indomestic
    1X Scan: CLR/Both CLR/Both
    EV Scan: Sprint - 0084:0AC0(Same) - PCS/25 PCS/50 PCS/150 PCS/475 PCS/550 PCS/625 PCS/650 PCS/375

The native is Sprint SID 4145, but what does it mean to have SID 2 with an "EV Scan" that matches Sprint's native info?

In the "SID: 2 - Verizon" case, is it
    1) Voice - VZ tower, EV Data VZ tower, VZ backhaul
    2) Voice - VZ tower, EV Data VZ tower, Sprint backhaul
    3) Voice - VZ tower, EV Data Sprint tower, Sprint backhaul
    4) something else (please explain)

For that matter, what is the significance of "0084:0AC0(Same)" I can guess it is some identifier to help figure out which signal you want to communicate with, but don't know what it specificaly translates to in an actual implementation.

It means that when you force roam your phone and pick up SID 2, it will use Verizon for voice/sms but search for Sprint EVDO to use for data. The 0084:0AC0 is the typical subnet that Sprint uses nation wide for their EVDO.

So essentially this entry is saying 1x roaming with Verizon. If you happen to have Sprint signal you'll get EV data but if your phone went into roaming on its own because of poor signal (rather than user initiated force roam) then that EV scan will probably come back with nothing and you are left with just your 1x roaming with Verizon?

Also when you force roam with Sprint EV signal available, it seems the user will then think they are connected to Verizon for voice and data when it is actually just voice. The phone will indicate roaming and EV data. If Sprint happens to have slow EV data at that time or in that area, the user will then think that Verizon is also slow, in particular, as slow as Sprint. This is assuming the user hasn't looked at your PRL analysis to see what is really happening.

So it looks like the only domestic EV roaming left in the most recent PRL is with Cricket in some markets.

Exactly! As you can see the PRL is littered with this garbage everywhere in effort to save them money.

There is some 3G roaming other than Cricket in the 60xxx series, but it's not VZW. Now the PRL to run is 11115, along side with the Roam Control app

Thanks. I found where it shows up on the phone now. Under the debug menu for EVDO it shows up as the prefix for "Sector ID".
