3 yr term is only for data. i checked my account changes and it said the 6gb plan does not include tethering. can someone please confirm if that is true?

I was advised that the voice plan had to be renewed, and yes, according to the bulletin it does.
Also my data credit $10 was not compatible and was removed and no other $10 credit to be applied as I have all other variants of the credit on my account already.
The 6GB option always has required a 3 year voice contract which is why I didn't push it. I also have more credits on my account than I should. I simply moved from the $45 1GB BES (was paying net $26 for it) to the $30 6GB. Basically, paying $4 more than before but getting 6GB instead of 1GB.
The difference is before I had the $30 - 6GB w/ $10 data credit...but they've set the data credit I had to conflict with the newest version of the 6GB...no idea why.
That's not true. When Rogers offered the 6gb data plan over 3 yrs ago, it only applied to the data plan. It did not affect my voice plan. My voice plan expires at a different date. I called Rogers again and was able to get the 6gb data plan on a 3 year term. My voice plan was not extended. I asked the rep a few times to make sure and he assured me he's only extending my data plan.
If you don't require BES, then for sure this is a better deal for you.
Does it matter whether you get the generic smartphone 6gb or the BB 6gb in terms of getting credits and/or having to have your voice plan extended?
Some have reported getting the 6gb without having their voice plan extended, so it has to be possible, no?
Rules are same for all variants. Also renewal was always required but not system enforced. Always policy enforced. I don't hold it against a rep as I was always a stickler for the rules.

So it's strictly luck of the draw whether you get a rep who would insists on renewing your voice plan? But I guess, truth be told, if you've got the 6gb for 3-yrs anyway, chances are 3-yr on the voice would not be onerous. Of course I would try to get additional perks added to the voice if I have to re-up.
