Much Faster 3G Data on Boost after Changing Proxy

I found an article on a forum similar to this one where the poster claims you can obtain substantially faster data speed on Boost by changing both proxies to 0.0.0.0 Is this safe? Do you think it would work? If this does work does that mean Boost has been throtling our data? In my area boost 3g data is almost as slow a dial up. It would be wonderful to find a way to speed up data.

Hello all! Today I will be helping you boost your 3G speeds! This tutorial will be for Windows so please do the equal on mac/linux
You will also need a copy of adb!(Comes with one click root and shabbymod)

First please connect your phone to your computer.
On your phone enable usb debugging!
    Now open a command prompt(Start->Programs->Accessories)

Navigate to your copy of adb via Cd path/to/adb

    type adb.exe shell getprop ril.MSL

now on your phone go to make call

    Dial ##3282#

Enter your MSL number you got from the command prompt.
a menu will then pop up, scroll to others, scroll to multimedia change the ones that say proxy to 0.0.0.0 then exit(there's two of them ;D)

Your 3g speeds will now increase significantly! "

There was a thread similar to this a while back and it was determined that there wasn't any change in speed.

I remember doing it on Sprint and didn't notice anything, so I really doubt it does anything.

Try it out and report back your individual findings.

I went ahead and tried it and it makes a huge difference. I finally have decent 3g data. Since it made no difference on sprint for you the only explanation I can figure is that sprint is throttling boost data but not throttling data for their contract customers. I was thinking of leaving boost because the data was so slow but this has made a huge difference. Now if some one could show me how to change the proxy on a htc touch pro for my wife.

I have searched on other threads that mention this same thing and the findings were half and half, most didn't notice any difference at all, others said there was maybe a 100kb difference.

I get almost max speed for EVDO Rev:A as it is so it wouldn't make any difference for me anyway, and I'm on Boost.

If this is the case which i doubt since its hardware QoS why dont people setup proxies on their hosting providers to unlimit whatever barriers they have? Will the proxie not cross to the net via IP? or does it need to be a boost/virgin/sprint ip

People can use private/public proxies, but the throughput is still whatever the connection will allow. You can't change the proxy settings on the device and expect to instantly have 3mbps, it won't ever happen.

You will get what is available to you, whether you use 0.0.0.0 or w/e the vhost/ip is that is provisioned to the phone.

I still don't see any real evidence that it makes any big changes.

Tried it, speed is the same. My biggest speed boost came from running a custom ROM with CIQ removed on my Epic as well as upgrading to the EG22 modem and the fact that they just redid the Sprint tower closest to me. I was getting HORRIFIC speeds before, like 150-300 with full signal. Now I regularly pull down 1200+ during off hours and VERY similar speeds to my soon to be de-activated Verizon service during peak hours which ranges from 300-700.

I can finally stream Slacker at work again and I notice no difference in load times anymore.

CIQ is "carrier IQ", it logs all your activity on the network ala the whole iphone 4 thing that everyone got in an uproar about. You remove it by flashing a custom rom that has it wiped out. Removing it just speeds up the phone in general as well as the simple fact that it is less data to go out...

No idea about the prevail but I know that some modems on my epic get much better speeds than others.

Didn't think this would work but I tried this on the fiancée's prevail and it seems to have worked. Went from 80/46 to 624/287. Maybe it's market dependent, I'm in Topeka.

The prevail has CIQ and we are looking at ways to get rid of it. Not only is it troublesome on the data side of things but in terms of battery usage too.
