    Exclamation Barnacle vs EasyTether/PDANet (On Triumph?)

    OK, which is faster(average?) in user response, wired tether or WiFi hotspot app, in the following categories:

    Download Speed -

    Upload Speed-

    Constant Speed-

    Browsing Speed-

    ~~~
    To clarify, Constant speed is the average speed of internet and Browsing Speed is how long to it takes to bring up webpages. Lets keep it accurate.
    VM can't provide even a standard 3G speed in my area from the day one I've got the phone. Does it mean VM steals from me ?
    You should have researched how VM routes their Data, and coverage in your area, i am sure you don't complain at the monthly bill.com October when data starts getting capped i am sure tethering and hot spotting will decline.
    Over tethering is the real problem, not really fully tethering. I just tether when im on my trips. I dont even go over 2gb tethering, but i still want my speeds when doing it.
    I don't complain about the bill. But it's VM set the price for a FULL service. I haven't saw them to mention a "crippled" version of the network. And the price is not important in this case. Are you saying that if I'll switch to
    higher price plan (not competitive at all) I should get a faster data speed?
    BTW I live in N Dallas and we have a full 3G/4G coverage here.
    So what's was the main point of your post?
    These prices are low because of the network is subsidized,everyone thinks they should be getting the same service,speed etc,as the consumer who signs a contract from Sprint,At&T or Verizon,this is never going to happen,we take some of the pitfalls of the data speed, reliability of coverage for these lower non contract options.so in a whoe if you are not satisfied or feel cheated move on to another carrier.
    Barnacle requires extra client side setup thanks to the Triumph being weird, and consumes battery faster. If you're tethering to a laptop wired (pdanet?), you can use it as an infrastructure wireless router instead.
    Considering the VM throttle speed will be about the same speed I get regardless on any given day, I'm not too concerned about the 2.5GB cap.
    I get almost the same speed on VM as I did with Sprint postpaid, they're both terrible. I think it's just too much congestion on the towers and too little bandwidth to go around.
    Verizon I get a much better speed for some reason, but then again, would pay 3x as much for the same plan I have on VM.
    3x the cost for 3x the speed, this really is 'pay as needed'. If you have full 3g/4g coverage you might as well get the other company, makes data speeds faster and gives you more space in your wallet. Now can we get some comments on speeds of, wireless vs wired?
    No matter what the tethering medium is, the speed bottleneck is ultimately in one's 3G speed capabilities...
