    Hi

And I still stand by my original points. Google is not blocking the SD card from Android, they just don't want to do it themselves. Is the work that hard (SD card support)? From a software view, no it is extremely well understood. Hardware can be a pain, but that really isn't Google's concern.
Google is not implementing the SD card into vanilla Android because they don't want to do the effort for what they see as no value.

If Google wanted to block the SD card they could, but they don't. They just don't implement it.

    Six weeks later?!

I'm disinclined atm to revisit this. If anyone cares, here's the original "knockdown drag out".

    http://www.howardforums.com/showthre...om SD support?

I might add a post link or two later. Gotta feed the cows now.

Is SD card part of what some OEM's are paying Microsoft for?

You mean regarding a patent matter of some kind? If true, that would be very interesting. Is Moto one? Any details?

    EDIT: found this:

    I guess that's what you're referring to.

So, actually, it's M§ at the root of it.

Samsung, HTC, and LG caved but Moto is a holdout. So it is about money – costs – after all. But not quite the way Susurro put it. I would have expected him to know about this. Pretty weak cover story, IMO.

    The link above is outdated.

    This comment makes the point:
That may be the prime reason Google's own devices never have SD card slots then they don't need to include the FAT filesystem. .

The patented part was added later only to support long filenames and is just a simple hack (I've implemented a fat filesystem). The filesystem design itself is not patented and is
ancient and horribly outdated anyway. I can't believe they can still get away with blocking the competition with this. The overall design goes back to 1980.

Android itself uses ext4, a modern robust filesystem and no one would even use FAT except for legacy reasons.

Nothing like necro-posting an old thread; but it seems as though this section is fairly dead anyways.

Also not sure if I posted in this thread or not, but if I did, I would have been excited about a GooMoto phone. When first Google acquired Motorola Mobility, some of us thought about another re-incarnation of the Motorola A855. Yeah, you know the Motorola unlocked phone that in some ways put Android on the map and helped Android push the iDon't off to where it belongs, since Droid Does. And here we are with Android having a bigger market share than iDont.

OK, enough of the bashing. I am excited that the Nexus 6 is made by Motorola, are you? Once Google dumped Motorola Mobility I thought that it was over, but here in the last hour; we have redemption.
