I'm very close to buying my first Android phone and need some questions answered as to what to expect from the Nexus One.
1) The internal storage capacity is stated as 512mb. Why is it so low and how much of it is actually available after the OS has been installed? I don't require a whole lot of space, I use a Nokia e71 with 120mb and I only user about 50mb. (though I am sure this will increase with the possibilities with the Nexus One). From what I know, the HTC Desire is the same as the Nexus One. A friend of mine has the desire and says the total usable space on it is about 120mb after the OS has been installed (mind you, he's on Android 2.1)
2) Is there a mod/rom to trash useless apps, or apps I don't need to cut down on space usage?
3) Is there any ROM that increases performance, as in, a simplified/optimized ROM that will help with battery life? What are battery life times like having bluetooth, wifi always turned with minimal applications running in the background?
4) Is it possible to skin the stock UI with HTC's Sense UI? I like it a lot more, and I've also heard that it drains the battery. If so, whats the best way around to this? If not, is it at least possible to change the way some things look? Like chat messages, phone (to dial numbers), contact list, etc?
5) Is Wifi Tethering possible/easy with the Nexus One?
Thanks!

I'm using the Nexus 1.
1. I currently am running stock (v2.3.4)and have used 165 MB and have 31MB free.
2. Because it is a Google experience phone it contains Google apps. XDA-developers will help.
3. Don't know. I don't use bluetooth and wifi rarely but I have to charge phone within 12 hours of average use.
4. XDA-developers will help.
5. Tethering available with Froyo or Gingerbread.
ETC...
Nexus 1 is getting quite old now and with Nexus S out and Nexus Prime just around the corner why go for the N1 now?
The Nexus line of phones are Google experience phones and get their updates from Google and not the cell companies, but I think we may have seen the last update for the Nexus 1 with 2.3.4.

The storage problem is my number one issue with the phone. I'm getting a lot of out of memory errors when updating applications even though I have relatively few. Clearing the cache is the only workaround. (I move to SD whenever possible, too.)
I agree with Dragonstar: just wait until the Prime or get the S.
I have a nexus one and still haven't found anything I want to replace it with. Doubt it will be the Nexus Prime because I do not buy Samsung. In any case, I switch back and forth between cyanogenmod nightlies and Miui. The last few Miui builds have been very stable, and battery life is very good for me. They are supposed to be releasing a stable build this week for the N1, I believe. While miui is not sense, It is not stock android either and highly customizable.
As for space..... Miui utilizes DT-A2sd, or A2SD+, which uses an ext3 partition on your sd card and links it to internal. I have a 1gb ext3 partition on my sd card and I don't ever run out of space.
Hope that helps![]()
The nexus one...yes I've still got one is a great phone...but these days that 512mb internal storage is a big issue. It's NOT enough. I am constantly getting warnings about filling my phone. It's a major annoyance and perfomance and battery life suffer as a result.
I have since moved on from my nexus one since it died in April, 2012. The 512 mb storage (really about 380-ish) was just too small. If you are finding space limited, and you are rooted, use DarkTremors A2SD. You have to make a partition on your sd card with a linux ext3 partition (about 1 gig) and then flash the DT-A2SD. It will sym link your internal memory with the ext3 partition on the sd card and it will see it as a lot more memory. When I was using that (or Miui's A2SD+) I would never run out of room with over 200 apps. My recollection is that the sd card had to be class 6 or better and preferably class 8 or 10 because of the speed. Good luck and have fun if you decide to do that.
