GetJar was a great site a few years ago but it's becoming less and less useful which each site update. The latest version has eliminated user reviews, no longer tells you whether an app is freeware, ad-supported or a demo, and the option to download to a PC is gone.

It is still possible to download from GetJar to a PC. You need:
    Firefox
The User Agent Switcher Firefox Add-on
Some mobile phone user agents. here are a few to get you started:

    NetFront/3.5.1(BREW 3.1.5; U; en-us; SAMSUNG; NetFront/3.1.5/WAP) Sprint M350 MMP/2.0 Profile/MIDP-2.1 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 (Samsung Seek 240x320)

    MOT-V3/0E.42.10R MIB/2.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.0 UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0 (Motorola RAZR 176x220)

    MOT-MOTORAZRV9/4 BER2.2 Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; 14003181) Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 Op! era 8.00 [en] UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0 (Motorola RAZR 2 240x320)

    MOT-V177/0.1.75 UP.Browser/6.2.3.9.c.12 (GUI) MMP/2.0 UP.Link/6.3.1.13.0 (Motorola V177 128x160)

    Procedure:
-Install Firefox and the User Agent Switcher
-Add one or more of the mobile User Agents to the Switcher. Don't include the description I added in the ()'s.
-Launch Firefox and select one of the mobile agents from the switcher menu. Use one from a phone with the same screen resolution as your phone to get games that fit your screen.
-Go to http://wap.getjar.com/ in Firefox. Find an app or game and download it to your PC
-The file you downloaded will be a .jad file. You also need the .jar file. to get it:
--Open the .jad with a text editor or WordPad.
--Search the .jad for "MIDlet-Jar-URL:". Immediately following that text is the URL of the JAR file. Copy the URL into the Firefox address bar and the .jar will download.

Too complicated? There are other sites that aren't so screwed up, although they don't have as many apps as GetJar:
    http://www.mobilerated.com/
    http://mobilestore.opera.com/
    http://www.phoload.com/
    http://www.umnet.com/
    http://boostapps.com
My site: PrepaidPhoneNews.com My other sites: wapreview.com, boostapps.com

    GetJar

I'm sorry you're having trouble accessing the site and downloading apps from GetJar.

As someone who's familiar with some of the things happening there, I can attest that they're simply preparing to launch a hugely more user friendly site and service in the near future. The reason for the pullback in some of the features is to make sure that what is offered is of high quality.

The new site in the works is supposed to have not only user reviews, but also extended social features that will make app sharing so much easier and fun. For the time being, I have gotten great value out of their Gold apps offering (free apps that cost $$$ elsewhere). Click on the Gold star.

If you have some connection with GetJar maybe you could help the OP and many others who can no longer use GetJar due to a bug which was introduced into the mobile GetJar site last week.

If you go to m.getjar.com with any phone that GetJar doesn't recognize like the LG 900G, Motorola WX400 or any phone running Opera Mini the site will ask you to pick a platform. If you pick say Java (J2ME) and do a search or click a category the site will again ask you to pick a platform and when you do it will dump you back at the front page. There is no way to search or go to a category any more if you are using an unrecognized phone.

This used to work, the bug was introduced sometime last week.

They seem to have it fixed now. If you pick the J2ME choice, it will allow you to quick download. Thanks Getjar!

This is what I received from GETJAR when I inquired as to how to download to my PC:

"Unfortunately we do not allow app downloads to computers. We were seeing lots of spam developers downloading big-name apps, re-writing their script, then uploading those apps as spam.

    I apologize for the inconvenience.

    Best,

    Andy"

Use a user agent switcher on the browser then you can download.

    I use this with Firefox
    http://chrispederick.com/work/user-agent-switcher/

I think UC Browser allows UA switching on the phone.
