It is still mostly rumor. Although I think this is mostly because HF doesn't seem to have any well respected Samsung/VZW insiders. It doesn't seem to be in many VZW tester hands yet either or I would expect more direct from source info here.

I do like this leak of Droid branding and iPhone targeting for it though. That will definitely make it one of the more successful nexus devices ever, particularly if you don't really consider OG Droid a Nexus device.

P3 stated the model number of the prime and the exclusivity of it long b4 this bgr article. He has been a VERY reliable source in the dx community he wouldn't just make up info be said he actually got to see the prime, and there was no Droid branding anywhere to be seen. He also said November/December launch. BMX also said it wont make October launch, between the two of them you can pretty dam sure say it wont make October.

October would be a funny time to launch it if Vigor is real. I don't think final branding would be known until launch. I would guess VZW and Google would have to negotiate that and decide which is best. I don't think Google ever intended for Nexus to be unsuccessful, but so far it has been and wouldn't be surprised if they let VZW have their way on this one since the OG Droid did both so well with Moto.

I think really that VZW would only have it launch as Nexus if they weren't going to put a lot of their own money behind the ad campaign. If it really is to be the major halo device to challenge the iPhone 5 they apparently aren't getting or aren't getting an LTE version of I would not at all be surprised if it hits with Droid rather than Nexus branding. I myself would find it odd if they are getting left out on iPhone 5 though, unless it really is just a GSM/LTE vs CDMA/LTE chipset related issue. I don't think there is any reason to doubt either branding really and I just think it all depends on just how big this device is for VZW in particular. They could be pushing the Droid HD and let this hit as a mostly Google advertised Nexus device on their network. The plethora of extreme high end VZW devices hitting in the same quarter is really the thing that makes any guesses as to what the plan is for each so difficult. It's almost like all devices from the first three quarters will be also rans and on their way out come Christmas time.

Have the Nexus devices been pretty disappointing sales wise? It seems the carriers don't put much advertising in to them so if that is all on Google then maybe this is Droid Prime is their way of saying, "hey, let's do some good sales numbers on this one" as the Droid moniker is pretty much the biggest thing when it comes to Android. Maybe they met VZW half way and said we will give you ICS first, you brand it Droid, or something of the sort?

Yeah. The first one Google tried selling it exclusively themselves. Since then distribution has went through more outlets, but there really hasn't been massive distribution on any yet as far as I know and I don't think any have really had carriers helping a whole lot with distribution. You have to remember though that the OG Droid was not a lot different than a Nexus other than it did not carry the name. We'll see, but I could see this go either way and it all sorta depends on what other Droid devices are ready for the holidays and such.

    Now BT certified.

They also point out this model number is a Charge derived number. This tends to make me believe all these LTE dual core phones are just the final products finally hitting after several months of the interim devices with last years designs. And this one really is a google device that was probably more VZW's doing than anything. Basically going to google and pointing out all the FINALLY current gen LTE devices they would have hitting around the time of ICS and working a deal for one to be the ICS launch device.

All speculation, but if that's how this deal was worked I figure it's very likely to be a droid. And I kinda got the impression none of the early LTE devices were intended to be on the market more than 6 months anyhow. The Bionic wasn't even supposed to be.

Droid-Life seems to kind support my theory in the last post here and add that this may well be a Nexus that will also exist in a similar time frame even if this Droid Prime for VZW is the first to hit with ICS. Which would basically mean that even if VZW has pulled off some ICS exclusive it will be short lived or maybe it's a US only exclusive and this Nexus device will only be sold internationally for some time?? Who knows, but it's looking more and more like Nexus and Droid Prime will both exist eventually and that Nexus Prime is probably not really a VZW device as taht will be Droid Prime.

    We all confused yet?

At this point I don't even care if it is a Nexus device on VZW or not. If its the same hardware, I am fine with that. I'm sure it will be unlocked at some point if there is bloat and if in the lucky chance it is like the Droid and stock, then I am ok with that.

I just want the rumored Prime specs, ICS and LTE on this phone. I've nearly completely ruled out the Bionic at this point and this model number confusion adds more fuel that there very well indeed is some sort of Sammy/Verizon/ICS-having/Prime-like phone coming.

From what p3droid is saying on twitter, that the reason for the two model numbers is because of one for Verizon, and one for Vodafone. http://twitter.com/#!/P3Droid/status/108658678923665408 and BMX confirms with this tweet as a reply. http://twitter.com/#!/black_man_x/st...59366361694208

So to me I'm not sold on this Droid Prime thing, and think it's still a Nexus only device.

Vodaphone being the only known carrier with a lock on this other device seems to suggest Voda/Verizon has a lock ICS launch apparently. To me that says nothing of what the device will be called here and over there. Vodaphone doesn't do the Droid branding as far as I know so would probably be happy with the Nexus branding. Verizon on the other hand is different. If Verizon really wants this to be a big deal I doubt they would put lots of ad money behind a name they don't have an exclusive on like they do Droid. Particularly something like a Nexus that Google has been trying to get some visibility for outside of developers. If VZW helped finally make this brand mean something, I am sure Google could turn around and spread the device to all the other networks as I doubt Google would give VZW any sort of control and long term exclusive to the Nexus name just to convince them to advertise it.

I do agree these devices are probably closely related and probably will be exclusive ICS devices for a time, but highly doubt the VZW version will launch as a Nexus unless VZW isn't too concerned with selling a slew of that particular device. Unless of course they got Google to agree to some more extensive ad campaign than they have done with any other Nexus device. Basically I think Google/Samsung would have to agree to an Apple like ad and hype assault for this to be a Nexus and I just don't see them doing that when Samsung is pushing Galaxy against iPhone and has no exclusive on Nexus and Google never has done a traditional ad/hype campaign for anything really before. Google is really adept at advertising and hyping to the internet/google savvy segment, but has never really been great at getting word out to the broader mass market.

Hoping for October, but it's hard to say still. Hopefully once Bionic has been out for a bit they will open up a bit about this device finally.

+1 once the Bionic releases, i'm betting we'll start seeing some more solid leaks on the Prime (and probably the HD, as well).

and Google's chairman just announced that ICS will be ready Oct/Nov (http://www.droid-life.com/2011/09/07...tobernovember/). so, while we could see the Prime in Oct, it's probably much more likely it will be Nov/Dec.

whenever its released, i'll be all over it. My hype has after reading some reviews. The bionic is not a bad phone but i wanted it for its lapdoc, which hasn't gotten a good review yet (from what i scene.) This is my go to phone.

More rumors on the 4.65" size and talk that it may be a Galaxy branded device.
