You'll need root to disable it, if the disabling method of the Galaxy S II is anything to go by.
The reason is that the camera heavily drains the battery, and the phone tries to eek out as much life as possible out of the battery.

Hi everyone. I finally got my first keitai yesterday, a white sh-12c.
I'm very happy with it because it works better than what i expected.
Anyway, most of the problems that i've found are already known, reboots if you use automatic 2G-3G nets (i set it up just for 3g -> cero problems), no wifi tethering (i suppose we will have to wait until we can root the device), battery runs out fast (bright low as much as i can, close all runing apps before turning screen off etc).
But there is one thing that i was not expecting: when battery reaches down about 20% or 15% of its charge level the phone does not allow you to take photos with the camera.
I search that on the user's manual and for what i'd read it's normal (as long as i understand it's because photos made in that conditions may look darker).
Is there some way to disable this protection?

thanks yamanote. So I suppose I'll have to wait until someone finds a way to root the device and then until someone figures out how to port the fix to this device. I'll better get in mind not to rise 20% of battery...
I still don't understand this restriction.. If I want to run my battery down by taking pictures, let me do it!!
It's not like I use a phone to make phonecalls anyway, I use it for the camera, email, internet, maps, etc.. so please let me run down my battery instead of saving it for phone calls!
(My SH-13C didn't disable the camera at 20% battery, but I haven't yet tested what happens below 15%...)
Totally right. It might be because sharp knows that iphone and BB fans could make bad reviews of their devices using the 3d camera a lot (battery will not last too long). By the moment the only thing we can do is download another camera software from market like camera360. We can do 3d photos and maybe the quality is worst but... at least it works
Guys just go download an app in market....
Like the UVA Camera app. It'll will still run even on 1% battery life

The problem with using third-party camera apps is that AFAIK none of them support taking pictures in 3D
Same here on my Sharp phone (pun, not that sharp, actually, it seems).
I guess they want you to be able to call a photographer to do the job.
Though the problem seems to exist on many Android phones, and there are always wise guys who think "that's ok, it's a phone"
It's not. It's my phone and I decide for what I use it (Android makes you free, remember). Never had such a silly problem on any iPhone. But also no 3D, so...
... go and annoy the Sharp support until they fix it.

Yeah no such problems on my Nexus S. Despite all the niceties of the Japanese androids, I'm leaning more and more towards just sticking with nexuses to avoid all that manufacturer meddling...
Without the 3D feature I wouldn't have bought an Android phone at all, I guess. But I keep dabbling with it at least until I found out how to find anything in the market that's at least somehow connected to the search string![]()
