That 8 hours sounds about right. With "normal" usage battery life is usually anywhere from 4 to 8 hours and about 16 hours with very light usage (pretty much not using it at all).

Hello All,
I've converted from an Iphone to the HTC Panache (which is just a Mytouch4g for Mobiliticty).
Anyway, I've noticed that the battery life of the phone is about 8 hours. I've done some reading and people say it has a small battery, and that the HTC sense burns through the battery.
I'd take it off, but the phone didn't come with a cd or anything with the operating system or programs on it and I'm nervous that if I screw around with the software, that I may loose the software.
Can I just turn sense off to test it out ?
THanks,
andy

Coming in here as a very battery frustrated MT 3G user, this is an ongoing issue apparently. Turning off every app still doesn't get but 10% of the time that my old non-touch screen phones have. I bought extra batteries, chargers, including a stand alone one, no phone needed.
As a techy for half a century, I've built many a batter pack for electronic devices. I know the technology. I know that if I fully discharge and recharge a battery of Nicad, NMH, or Lith Ion types, they will gain full capacity. This problem is beyond that.
A few days ago I was reading a good thread on this issue about a Verizon phone. One agreed on fix is to do a complete reset to default. All who did that got more life. Another suggested - pay attention here - to charge to full, disconnect charger, turn off phone, plug charger in, turn phone on. Phone will charge again for a minute or less. Rinse, lather, repeat.
Wow! Almost doubled my use time! Did it with another battery, but not my third. Phone was just as improved with the unmolested battery! So, whatever that does, it resets something in the phone.
I hope that helps.
endlessdayz, I do it for three times. Nothing scientific, just observing that once gives, or often gives, a big boost. Twice, somewhat less. Thrice, what the heck, why not? Diminishing returns and all that stuff......
There may be a battery pack that you can purchase. There is one for the Samsung Galaxy S. Its a case with a battery inside it. It plugs right into the outlet of the phone and gives the phone longer lasting battery life without making it too much bulkier and it also helps protect it becasue it is a gel skin wrapped around it.
I have this issue too. Have had the mytouch for a bout 2 years. My mobile doesnt last 5 hours with 4G internet off, app killer set to kill apps and lowest brightness setting. The mytouch or shall i say the Android OS is a very energy hungry system. I wouldnt expect much more even with a bigger battery, they do have higher mAh battery for the mytouch but reviews on it made me decide not to invest in it due to many people saying it really doesnt add anymore battery life 10-20 maybe. the HTC Sence is a culprit along with android. All in all, the smart phone market is in need of better battery technology. Battery technology is to behind for our phones, its time the battery manufactures step up the game and fast, cause I am very upset about my phone. WHen i need to use it the most it seems its always on its last leg of battery(With the lowest power settings enabled and less use, that pisses me off!
Not only is there nothing wrong with current battery technology, it's utterly amazing when you compare it to NiCad's, the first sealed rechargeable cells. Your frustration is due to the phone OS and HTC more than anything else. And, our demands that our phones give us massages, almost. But no one should have to use an external pack to get a day's use!
My phone, used with Cyanogen, came with an active wallpaper. Very pretty, but it never let the computer shut off! My battery life at leasted doubled when I substituted a plain vanilla one.
Did any of you complainers do what I suggested, about running down all the way and recharging? And the charge/turn off/unplug/replug/turn on trick? Not saying that YOUR problem will be solved, but until you do, all you are doing is kvetching.
Is your GPS on? I hate to bring up the obvious, but it has to be asked. When I run the GPS, the battery actually gets almost hot!
Poking around on the intertubes, I see the newest iPhone 4S has joined the ranks of the battery hog brigade. At least Apple is acknowledging this and looking for a solution.
Since I use my phone just about only for phone (gasp!) and texting, I've switched back to my Nokia E90 for daily use. DAYS of standby time. Ahhhhh......
