Flex Data Plan for Tablets - new 4-tier pricing structure

    I remember previously it was:

    0-500MB: $20
    500MB-5GB: $35

It looks like now Telus has changed it to:

    0-10MB: $5
    10MB-100MB: $10
    100MB-500MB: $20
    500MB-5GB: $35

    I like it.

Lower tiers for the low months.
    Clearnet Digital PCS

We think everyone should be able to afford a wireless phone. That's why we were the first wireless company in North America to offer pay-by-the-second airtime, and why we don't charge an activation fee. NO scary contract to sign. Immediate national coverage. And a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. Yes, it's finally time to get a wireless phone.

Just a note that I switched my existing tablet plan to this new version. The rep got a bit confused because my account says I'm using a Sierra Wireless aircard instead of a tablet device but I just explained to him that it only shows the last official Telus device the line was connected to and doesn't show my unofficial android tablet device that was not purchased through Telus (Which is sort of true).

I've been waiting for a 4g Android Tablet to be released so as soon as they annouced the Galaxy Tab 10.1 I started checking Rogers stores (all my other plans are with them). Rogers was clueless. Went to the Telus Store at the mall and the staff there couldn't have been more helpful. They got me the tablet that day and I signed up for this plan when I picked it up. No Activation Fee. No charge for the SIM card. Month to Month with No cancellation fee. I was very impressed with the plan. And so far, LOVE the Tab 10.1! Thanks Telus

Until April 30 (or they change their minds): no activation fee and no overage charges (i.e. you pay the initial $5, but never get bumped to the next billing tier) for the first 2 months on the Flex Data plan for tablets. That seems rife for abuse...

I don't get it, why is the data for tablets cheaper than for cell phones (smartphones)? They are the same device more or less (except the bigger screen) and it is the same network. So why the difference? And can it be added to a regular cell phone line on top of a voice plan or is it data only ?

You can't add it to an existing number, it is a stand-alone plan. The difference is that smartphone owners getting data is almost a given, but tablet owners have been very reluctant. Telus is trying to entice them into recurring subscribers of a second line.

I am more than happy just tethering through my phone and use some of my 6 gig. I think everyone has their phone with them at all times or most of the time. Android's wireless tethering makes it way to easy. I never use more than 2-3 gig with tethering so I don't need a separate plan.....yet.

I'm a tad confused by their website because it shows a $5 monthly charge and then $5 for 0-10 MB. It's not clear whether these two are the same or different.
So for example if I use, say, 5MB of data in a month (ha!), do I get charged $5 or $10?

    I'm pretty sure it's just $5.

Visited a Telus store to ask and you're right... $5 total for up to 10MB.
Just signed up... no activation fee is a good thing.

I think I didn't get free activation for some reason...what do your guys' Agreements look like?

    Full retail price $9.99
    Service Agreement Discount -$35.00

    Your price $0.00

    Monthly Recurring Charge $5

    Account setup fee $35.00

Is there still an Account setup fee but not an activation fee or something? Bell has fine print saying its credited in 6-8 weeks but Telus says nothing...every employee I call is clueless!

The $35 activation charge should be there; it is supposed to be offset with a matching credit on the first bill. If you don't see one then call in.

CSR waived activation fee for me.
