    BB9780 problem restoring contacts

so my gf's 1 month old BB9780 was having problems with her Twitter app or something. she calls WIND, dude tells her to wipe it and restore. she does. her contacts only come back with emails, no numbers.

now she's sayng WIND has no BB support and she has to pay RIM $50 to help...?

    anyone else go through this?

yeah, she had a near meltdown with her rogers bb, which spurred the move to WIND, so everything was backed up.

she spoke with someone at RIM and apprently she backed up her contacts to outlook and didn't realise it or something. i don't think they charged her for the help.

    thanks for your reply!

This is why, in my opinion, everyone should use a gmail account for their contacts. It's compatible with iPhone, Blackberry, Android and Symbian. If you get a new device you don't have to worry about transferring contacts. If you need to wipe your device you don't have to worry about restoring your contacts. It just works so well, there's no reason not to.

Even if you don't use gmail, you can still make an account just to store your contacts.

Desktop Manager works exceptionally well, I have it set to back up everything when I plug it into my PC. If my BlackBerry has a meltdown then I only lose a day or two of additions, and typically that isn't very much. RIM is working on a solution where things like your contacts get automatically backed up to their servers, that should roll out with the QNX phones.

I'm starting to get leary of giving Google any more of my information - they have too much already. They stopped following their 'don't be evil' mantra a long time ago and I feel as if I can't really trust them anymore.

    Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry9630/5.0.0.732 Profile/MIDP-2.1 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/126)

Go get 'blackberry protect'... It is available now from RIM and it will back up your 'berry based on a schedule you set up to RIM's servers OTA...

Plus it does cool things like help you find your phone, when its lost. And will remotely wipe it/back it up and then lock it, if some creep on the bus swipes it...

    Free to download from app-world.
