Do you have an AT&T or T-Mobile SIM? Any idea how much data you used, or if not, could you provide any more specifics on exactly what streaming apps (and corresponding music bitrate) and hours used in the day(s) leading up to the warning call? That would allow us to at least roughly calculate how much data you used, which is a great service to the HoFo community.

    Thanks!

My bet is he has the AT&T SIM. We have yet to hear from someone using the T-Mobile SIM getting calls about using too much data; which is a good thing!

I would suggest using 3g watchdog if using a android i had a nokia e71 when it first came out and got the dreaded call from using youtube too much. They eventually disabled you tube on the e71. Needless to say my phone stays on wifi when at home or where available.

I just got a call from 800-989-1506 and didn't answer. I googled the number and some people said it was spam but it also showed a link to this thread. Does anyone know if its actually from straight talk? I have been tethering and using a lot of data so I'm worried they were trying to warn me. Thanks.

This. But why when folks are willing to pay $15 for a SIM?

sorry in advance if this is in the wrong section, but i'm real torn between Tmo's plan and this one off of ATT, my question is would using the data to tether for gaming (is that even possible on ST?) would the 100mb a day be crossed if i gamed for a few hours cause i'm not sure how much it uses (i've been told not a lot).

It totally depends on the game and what kind of game. Generally speaking, i would say yes. I wouldn't recommend using ST as a home internet replcement at all though. If you need to tether a good amount of data, T-mobile $30 with 5GB data is a better choice

its for league of legends, yea I know T-mobile would be better but when i look at the coverage it looks like my house is right in a 2g area surrounded close by 4g so idk if i'd get good connection or not, also we don't have any options for internet aside from using mifi/phone because we won't pay for sattelite

I got a call today. Last weekend I forgot to turn off the tethering function and my computer automatically connected to the cellphone network and was set to auto play youtube videos.
My bad. I'm on ATT network.
Does anyone has experience on what they would do after the first phone call?

A 30 minute game goes around an average of 10MB of data usage. [ Approximate estimate over bandwidth monitoring over 30 or so games.]

So 1 hour = ~20MB and 5 hours = ~100MB. You also have to watch out for patches/updates to the game, as those could run several hundred megs.

(No I dont play, I just know how to use Google )

just to clarify though, the 3 month refills do work / are available on the $45 unlimited BYOD plan then, right?

A ST phone and a ST BYOD SIM both use the very same unlimited airtime (all available sizes).

Theres absolutely no evidence they cap after 2GB, plenty of people have gone past 2GB. The rep is clueless just like most ST/TF reps
