I don't tether, and I do watch videos, but work and home I have wifi. WTF is up? How can I tell how much data I'm using. It's getting ridiculous. I like ST, but if I have to deal with this garbage I'll just go somewhere else.

    Any ideas?

So I should download that app and monitor my usage?

What number should I shoot for in a given day, and in a given month?

Once ST/AT&T slows you down, are you always going to be slowed down?

I checked my stats, and I've only received 1.5G and sent 199MB, and I've only had this phone since Jan 15th, that's nothing for over a month, is it?

    Thanks for the info, folks.

    Yes

Generally its safe to use 2GB a month and 100MB a day. You could probably use more without issue, its your choice how much you want to play it safe.

    .
They will not throttle you. They let you get into trouble, usually giving a warning first. If you really take it to the extreme, they go directly to cutting you off. They can shut off data for the remainder of the 30 days or in extreme cases cut your service off, without any refund for remaining airtime/days.

The unlocked T-Mobile SIM is new, so we have no idea what to expect in regards to their control of data.

Probably goes without saying with some careful wifi setup on most phones and most people having Wifi at home, work and other places I think in most cases this is all good. It just takes a couple minutes to setup your wifi for each of your locations on your phone and your done. Wifi first then Mobile Data last.

Yeah, that's what I do. What sucks is where I work has free wifi, but they make you go to a page an accept their terms and conditions, then after like 10 mins of inactivity it logs you out, then if you want back on you have to reconnect and agree to their terms again, and the slow a$$ 3g takes a couple of minutes to load the page where you agree to their terms. Any way I could set something up so my phone has some activity every five or ten minutes so it doesn't log me out?

I can't see why mine has slowed down so much then. I mean, 1.5G in a little over a month isn't bad I don't think.

Are people abusing the unlimited data and causing it to slow down?

Will that app send alerts when I'm coming close to my limit?

Instead of an app if you already have email setup on your phone maybe you can have it check for email like every 8 minutes. Just have email setup to get headers not the body that way if your off wifi on 3G you will only open emails you actually need to read so then it will download those.

When Straight Talk calls with the warning, will they leave a message? Will they also send a warning via txt?

Theres no warnings. You get your data cut off and then a call asking why you were using so much data. Yes, they will leave voicemail if you don't pick up. You definitely don't want to get to that point although the first time you can get them to turn data back on. Just tell them you left Youtube running by accident or something. They'll then school you to turn off apps and data sessions when your done blah blah.

St is cheaper by far then any other Att mvno but if you want clearly defined limits, they aren't it. That'd be Red Pocket/Jolt, etc which is reported to have rollover on their data. Some Hofos are packing close to five gigs already in reserve. I knew something like this was going to happen. Unlimited isn't, at least on data. Not anymore anyways (except Boost and Verizon prepaid).

If your packing 5GBs in rollover, your over paying! Seriously, it means you don't use or need that much and your paying for more than you need.

The description is now listed as "Unlimited MB of mobile web browsing".
That tells me one should be safe up to 1GB. After that, you're getting into GB's.
Figure it any way you want to, but I plan to be on the safe side and keep my data under 1GB per month.

I'm running a Prepaid ATT Avail phone using my Nokia E71 sim card, and I have a Straight Talk ATT compatible sim card on order for it.

BTW, this Howard Forum is quite informative and very helpful.
Thanks to all who maintain the board and donate their time end expertise.

People want choices no doubt . But I think the sheer size of the ST forums on HoFo vs all the rest of anemic mvnos prove that people have already made their choice. They choose to save real money on ST over the noise and gimmicks of the rest. Money talks and BS walks. Pay 20-30 dollars more a month for what? Peace of mind? A friendly customer service representative? Who really gives a sh-it about that over cash? Show me that person and I'll show you a natural born sucker.

But then ask the question who wants to dump AT&T plus save anywhere from $20-$30 over those other mvno charging $60 for the same service. You'll find a lot of people jump for the opportunity to sign up for that.

After reading almost all of this post, it seems that the LOOPHOLE sims are having NO problems while the BYOP Sims are plague with issues. Are they the same ? Will you continue to receive unlimited everything using the BYOP? I'm not ready to jump ship quite yet, no reason , in fact I see more reason NOT to than reasons TO jump..JMHO
