15 kilobits or 15 kiloBYTES on Boost ? And is it iden with the sim, or cdma without the sim? Iden isn't 3g by any stretch, just checking...
A Bee bit my bottom, now my bottom's Big - Homer S.
I left SM for ST about 3 weeks ago, and it was the best thing I could have ever done. $40 sounded good, and I had tried to convince myself that I could live with 119kbps DL, but once I saw that meter start pegging again at around 4Mbps, with a monthly cost increase less than the price of an Egg McMuffin and a coffee, I could not imagine returning to SM.
I was also a victim of Simple Mobile's falsely advertised 3G plan of 120 Kbps. It's a shame they don't advertise the plan to what it really is - a 2G plan!
What plan did you have with T-Mobile? Just wondering because I'm switching from Simple Mobile to T-Mobile in a week and wondering on which plan you were getting those 3G speeds.
Straight Talk is a great option.
bcw, may I ask what phone you are using fr the $40 plan. Because I am thinking about getting an iphone and using it on there $40 plan.
If you're going to get an iPhone then just use it on Straight Talk because you will actually get 3G speeds and use the iPhone on the network it was designed for.
Getting an iPhone to use on T-Mobile or Simple Mobile is a dumb move and you will be stuck seeing that lousy "E" symbol all the time.
The $40 Simple Mobile plan is only good for people who want unlimited talk+text+light browsing using 2G handsets or non-smartphones. Basically, if you're going to be using a smartphone then you're better off with going with Straight Talk's unlimited plan and you choose the sim card you want (in the iPhone's case it would be the AT&T sim).
Straight talk suspends your account for any streaming.

Switch to ST for an extra 5 bucks... I'm consistently getting 7 down and 2 up on the TMO sim. Had it about about a week and it's night and day between what I have now and my old Iphone 3g on ATT at less than 1/2 the price... Likely the same deal as SM's $60 plan. I think the only value proposition they have is for BB useres.
I think both ST and SM have that in the TOS. They don't have a direct way to tell if you're streaming, but infer it from data use (> around 2). If you use less than 2g per month you should be good regardless.
Update:
Speeds were throttled to 120 Kbps the moment I hit the 2GB mark.
When I hit the 2.5GB mark - I received the following message:
"Your Simple Mobile Data service is at risk of being suspended due to violation of terms and conditions. Call 800 219 9702 for additional information."
They definitely have a system in effect that does it automatically from their end.
I got 3 days left so I will keep using it until I get the suspend message and confirm at exactly what amount of data used they shut me off.
I was about to purchase the $40 Simple Mobile plan. But, from the feedback here, it looks like the data speeds would be really slow. It looks like the next cheapest option seems to be Straight Talk ($45).
I have a few questions on the Straight Talk plan. Could you please help me?
1. Which network does ST use? AT&T or T-mobile or both?
2. It asks me what phone I have (Unlocked, T-mobile or AT&T). Does it mean I can use the carrier-locked phone instead of an unlocked phone?
3. From data speed and voice/data signal coverage perspective, is there any advantage between getting Unlocked, T-mobile or AT&T phones?
Thanks.
