I was really hoping that it was going to be faster, but it looks like it is slower then VM Speeds.

    FAQ about speeds

Their FAQ about 3G speeds says:

What will I notice when on a 3G network?
Using one of today's 3G-capable devices in an area with 3G coverage, you'll notice faster Web browsing and content downloads. Web browsing speeds using a 3G phone on the 3G network will typically range from 128 to 300 Kilobytes per second.

Please refer to the speednet.com tests results I posted earlier on this thread.

The problem is that Simple Mobile "CAP" the download speed at 119kbps.

    No more and no less.

128 to 300 Kilobytes per second wouldn't be too bad, but the speedtest.net results others are posting are Kilobits per second.
    300Kilobytes = 2400 Kilobits, which is around 2mbps
If the $40 plan had a 1GB cap and 1-2mbps speeds, that wouldn't be bad at all. Thats like GoPhone feature data package speeds and over there its $50 for 1GB of data only.

That doesn't make sense because all the YouTube videos I have seen of people doing Speed Tests on 3G Android Phones on Simple Mobile they get around 2.2-4.1 MB/S on Download and 0.6-1.6 on Upload.

This is just a brief update on what I have done trying to solve this slow 3G download speed problem.

As of today, I notice that the download speed is still cap at 119kbps same as the day before.

Tried to call customer service, they checked my account and said there's nothing wrong with my account or the system, and suggest me to switch back to the $60.00 4G plan next month.

After BS with the CS, I realised that I still have an extra Simple Mobile sim card sitting around.
So I called CS again and have them activated the new sim card, but also this not help, download speed still cap and slow.

Then I took the sim card out and tried it on another T-Mobile phone, still no luck, speedtest shows the same 119kbps crappy download speed. (Phone used for test: T-Mobile Mytouch 3G slide and T-Mobile 8150 Comet)

All these tests were performed at zip code 9460X, downtown area in Oakland, CA.

This crappy download speed is now only good for updating my phone's widget and browsing mobile web page,
damn, damn, it's not even fast enough to play a low quality YouTube clip.

May I ask, is there any Simple Mobile user out there have the same problem/experience?

Most likely conclusion: Some idiot wrote kilobytes and meant kilobits.

Sadly it looks like you're not even getting 128 kilo*bits*!

Both of these phones have EDGE capable up to 236.8 Kbps, that is theoretically 99% faster than your 3G speeds. Irl, might be 15~50% faster? Just curious.

Just curious, have you tried forcing your phone to 2G only to see if EDGE is capped? I realize its not really any faster, but it would be interesting to see.

You know that actually makes sense. The restriction of speed is when you are connected to their 3G network, thus the slower speeds on 3G. Once you force the phone to only use Edge, you will get the full potential of Edge, which can probably get you into the 200kbps.

It seems that Simple Mobile is trying to do "clever" marketing or just doesn't understand the difference between 2G and 3G/4G.

Nonetheless, I wonder if the Android 'modification' to not get throttled would work to bring the full 3G/4G speeds.

Frankly, I don't like the way Simple Mobile does.
If Simple Mobile claims 3G, the speed should be capped at 400kbps (maximum limit of basic UMTS), not 119kbps. In addition, throttling point should be set at 2GB for $40 plan, and 5GB for $60 plan, or it's not appealing as T-Mobile $70 5GB unlimited talk/messaging monthly prepaid plan.
