Just felt like sharing... Nokia C6-01 on Straight Talk.

Got the new Nokia C6-01 (see my avatar) USA version unlocked from Amazon Saturday. Got it all set up and running on Straight Talk. 3.5G most of the time, 3G the other few times. Really like this phone and it works great on Straight Talk... that is, if you're fortunate enough to have one of the unlocked SIM cards from the Straight Talk Nokia E71.

Is it any good? The price seems reasonable. Does the touch screen work well? I remember reading a review for a Nokia touch screen phone on one of the tech sites not too long ago and the person reviewing said basically that Nokia touch screen phone's leave a lot to be desired. I honestly don't remember what Nokia phone it was but I don't think it was this one.

At first it was a tad bit sluggish but since I replaced the 4GB Class 2 MicroSDHC card that came with it, with a 32GB Class 4 MicroSDHC card, it's perfect now.

What settings did you have to adjust to make it work with your ST sim card. Is Joikuspot compatible with this phone?

    Thanks

When you put your SIM card in, calling and text messaging automatically works. Nothing special to do. For internet and MMS, you have to add the APN info - found here - in the Connectivity Settings inside the phone's Menu.

According to JoikuSpot's official web site, it will and does work with this phone - although I wouldn't use JoikuSpot with Straight Talk. Straight Talk is notorious for killing the accounts of people who use too much data.

Thanks for the info...it looks like a great phone. There is one of these on ebay right now and I think that I am going to grab it!

Using JoikuSpot is no better, or worse, than using the SIM card in a different phone. Neither is allowed by ST terms of service.

Lots of folks use Joiku on the e71 or e5 to get service on the go for their iPads or other tablets. As long as you keep the data usage at a reasonable amount (less than 2 gigs or so monthly) you should be good. Try to replace your home ISP with Jokiu and yea your gonna have a problem.

I am trying to manually enter the info under APN control and it is asking for a PIN2 number...any ideas?

Read the documentation for the device and see if there are default values. There is no way for anyone else in these forums to determine that you have the authority to enter the PIN's. If you sought help from the manufacturer, they would require both proof of your identity and ownership of the phone for which you sought that type of assistance.

I didn't encounter this issue so unfortunately, I can't help you with that.

Thanks for the feedback and input; I was trying to make the wrong adjustements! I got it figured out and everything works well. I am surprised that this phone isn't more popular. I have had an iPhone, an Android phone and the E71 and I really like this phone! It is really built well, has a lot of available apps on the OVI store and is up to date with features.

Thanks again for the help and info!

Excellent! Glad you got it working right. There's tons of free apps out there. And be sure to read this, especially what it does for you in the #6 step there.

This is probably off-topic, but I wonder if the Nokia C6-01 might come onto ST soon. The C6-01 would actually be a decent phone (or at least a decent counterpart to the LG Optimus One) for ST. I don't know if Nokia would be cooperative, though, since they came out and said, "WP7 only for US!"

Well, Nokia plans to use the a swipe UI like the N9 and a different Linux mobile OS for its "low end" phones. Just no more Symbian for "dumb phones". They may come to ST..

I thought Nokias decision to totally discount Android phones was a poor one.
I would bet that they could snaz together a really good theme and great hardware for such a phone.

Such a pity the market they will miss out on.
