I tend to agree, but I'd still want more than 2d hand rumors - I'd need strong explicit promises with a precise date and direct from Moto and vzw - before I could take seriously a D4 release on GB.

Well, let's hope that is the case, and I suspect that this will not be an issue, and that the D4 will be running ICS at somepoint by the end of Q2 2012, if not from day 1. And maybe the delay would allow them to put ICS on the device from day1. Could be wrong, and moto management had been dragging their feet with a few previous models, but this time I think that they would want to get on the same page with the rest of the android ecosystem,a and not get left behind.

Motorola said it would take 4 to 6 months to bring ICS to some of their actual products (razr, bionic). I doubt the D4 will come out with ICS.

I only hope this delay for tweakings and improvements rather then marketing or whatever other reasons.

You're probly right. But I for one won't bite unless vzw & Moto both commit to a specific firm date for the upgrade.

Has that ever happened for any VZW/Moto phone?

No sd card isn't good should you have to swap the phone.. takes a little longer to transfer data. I have the extended battery and, with 4g on, the battery could last as little as 6 hours with heavy usage... Not thrilled about that. I thought I would miss the keyboard since I've had one for 4+ years, but was used to it after a couple of days. I texted on my friends iphone yesterday which was now very easy for me where I once despised it in the past.

Unlikely. But the D4 is fading fast.
Engagement was too long. Should've just eloped to Vegas.

I don't think that Best Buy's promo shot, will influence the D4 release date at all. If there is a hardware or software problem that caused the delay, that would still need to be fixed first.

I agree. The market is a moving target. When a phone stops and takes a long nap, it usually ends up being a sales dud.

If this D4 nap results in a $100 discount, then it might be worth the wait.

Seriously, it's just a one month delay. Are we expecting to see any other phone, from any manufacturer on any carrier, released in the next month with a physical QWERTY keyboard, LTE, and a dual-core processor? If the answer is no, and I'm pretty sure it is, the D4 doesn't have much to worry about.

Right now, there are only three high-end smartphones with physical keyboards -- the D3, the Stratosphere, and the Captivate Glide -- and the D4 is clearly superior to all three. Unless HTC comes out with a quad-core QWERTY slider in Q1 2012 (unlikely) or Samsung comes out with a Galaxy Nexus Slider (even more unlikely), the D4 will have the market all to itself.

Given how neglected the QWERTY market has been of late, that seems true.
