I am sure it's been done with all the carriers to some extent.

    Prepaid's come and go.

They set the standards, you can't make people follow good honest practices.

VZW just needs to eliminate commission on prepaid and remove prepaid from quotas. Let the profit be on phone sales and airtime. That's all.

I know someone who is sub from zcom and now Verizon is lookin to shut down every single zcom llocation. Which is kinda sad and I feel bad for zoom subs, these poor people had nothing to do with this. The owner of zcom was a douche and whole Verizon management was in bed with him but why to punish the small guy. If Verizon does close what options are these poor subs left with?

You must be new to this, the subs get the shittiest treatment in every possible way why would you think this would be any different? Forget subs, just call it any one who is not a premium or has less than 50 stores.

They are the last to get the new phones, they get the worst locations, lowest commissions, no money to assist in building out stores, no opportunity to open new ones and I can go on forever. Subs and all the little guys get screwed in this business unlike anything else I have ever seen.

Do you know how many times they forced smaller guys to close 4 or 5 doors or hand them over to a bigger guy for pennies on the dollar for absolutely no reason or for reasons that they do not enforce on any of the bigger guys?

I agree subs are treated the worst and Verizon is the worst offender. Verizon treats it's indirect channel like **** and subs are at the bottom of that food chain. As I see it Verizon will kill all the small guys and only few big guys will be doing all the business

This is pervasive in the Philly and NYM area. One of our previous AMs suggested we do the false prepaid activation trick. I know that several of the other indirect agents in my area were also told to do the same. None of whom are/were ZCom subs.

I still don't get while certain areas count prepaid acts anyway. For us they count as nothing.

because NY has a huge pool of prepaid subscribers and they need to make it worthwhile for the agents to push it on them. Companies like simple mobile, pageplus, boost, and tmobiles prepaid are huge competitors out there but not in your area.

I worked at a Zcom wireless location in Mass from winter 2010 till this October. So this topic hits a little close to home. We were never once asked by anyone (vzw rep, zcom reps, or store owner/manager) to do this. I've known all of the employees at this location for years, and we're all very good friends and are very honest with each other. Our location was sold off to Amcom in October. Me and the other sales associates i work with were kept and transfered. After the switch we never really got to talk to our owner anymore. I don't know if he was forced to close the store or if the Zcom names is too tarnished now. It's a shame really, like breaking up a family. But, i suppose that's business as usual.

That being said: Pre-paid activations were/still are a big part of how we're viewed in VZW eyes. All pre-paids acts are considered a new act tally. Thus, the more pre-paid acts the more total new activations. The more total new acts the better your store looks. That coupled with the fact that if we sold a high percentage of pre-paid phones we'd be congradulated. This kind of mentallity is nothing more than set-up and go, NPS scores, and the likes. Just another stat to brag about. It's a bad mindset.

It is corporate greed at its worst, i know a zcom dealer who has few locations in NY and he is the most humble and hardworkin person i have come across. Poor guy is gone lose his business because vzw has bad blood with zcom even thou he's not even part of any of this. What i don't understand is why doesn't vzw let zcom subs transfer to a diff master or sell there stores. It makes no sense to close 130 locations for nothing. I been hearing tht vzw's corrupt officials have some big chain lined up to take over this locations. I feel bad for these poor hard working ppl who will lose there livelyhood for nothing

because moorehead is offering to come in with better looking stores, new fixtures, etc. The zcom subs cannot afford to remodel their stores with new fixtures because verizon is not paying for the fixtures, and commissions for subs is a joke they cannot make any real money to stay in the business over the long run and expand to hundreds of stores.

On the other hand, Moorehead makes a ton more per activation and verizon pays them a fortune for each store they open. Verizon is hoping to close 100 ugly looking zcom stores and open 100 corporate looking moorehead stores.

WOW, they subpoenaed the CEO LOL there is no way that is going to fly, believe me they will fight the subpoena or they will all come to an out of court settlement.

They do have balls though that is hilarious lol This is blowing up a lot bigger than anyone at verizon ever thought, kudos to the little guys for fighting back its about time!

This practice was promoted heavily in the Washington / Baltimore market as well. The Director for Indirect, Regional Managers and Account Managers were all pushing this to the agents. At the beginning of 2010 they changed the compensation and expiration rules for prepay. At a 2010 Kick Off meeting, the Director went out of his way to point out that, once activated, accounts would only be de-activated for non-use after the 180 day vesting period. We were told that the only way we would be charged back was if the customer called and asked to have the number cancelled. Kinda hard for that to happen if the customer never actually takes the phone (wink, wink). Don't know about other markets, but we were also told at that meeting that VZW would start counting pre-pay activations towards our quotas. AMs came around to the stores and promoted this practice, and touted the great numbers other agents were putting up. They suggested that we pay the initial fee to put airtime on the account for the customer. We even had agents putting out approved advertising with this program. Whole thing stinks to high heaven. Hope they put a few people at VZW under oath for depositions. I'd pay to see that!
