I can't imagine anyone going over 5 GB on a phone unless you're constantly tethering all the time. Assuming you're not grandfathered at $25, last time I checked, $30 < $35.
I used T-mobile for years on a dumb phone before switching over to VMUSA, and the voice quality/signal strength were infinitely better than VMUSA. I haven't tried T-mobile for data, but seeing how poor VMUSA coverage is in the SF Bay Area, I can't imagine T-mobile being worse. Plus the much, much wider selection of devices makes the T-mobile plan extremely attractive.
Only thing holding me back is the concern over the AT&T buyout, but I suppose the beauty of prepaid is I can just eBay the device for a slight loss and crawl my way back to VMUSA, only to lose my grandfathered $25 plan...
saying anything is better than another is just wrong. just because T-Mobile is better than VM in one city doesn't mean that VM isn't better than tmobile in another. unless you have tested in every city we must base it on facts.if your not tethering then speed isn't important. people love to complain about anything to feel important. im on the $25 plan but even on th $35 deal VM is a better deal because of 300 minutes. people around here forget that these are phones and phones are used to talk on them which mean minute amounts are important. comparing these plan are not on the same level.VM said even when they start throttling the speed will be 256 and T-Mobile said 128.so more minutes, faster data on throttled (unless your tethering) virgin is a better deal if you have to compare apples to oranges. also T-Mobile is throttling now an VM starts next year. the choice is your though.lets get the facts out first.i can say T-Mobile has one advantage. gsm

I agree. VMUSA has decent coverage where I am, going between norcal and socal. The data speeds are slow no matter where I am though. Even though I'm grandfathered at $25, I'm willing to pay $5 more for better coverage, faster speeds, and a much better phone selection. The 100 minutes is doable for me, but may be cutting it close some months. Even if I go over, 10 cents a minute isn't bad.
I'm a bit concerned about the merger too, but since they're introducing this new plan under the current state of T-mobile, I don't think it will be dropped any time soon. Even if I'd have to return to Virgin Mobile, I'm still happy with $35 a month for a smartphone.

i see what your saying. but a small amount of people are going to be interested in the T-Mobile plan just for data.like i said earlier most people want a phone so minutes are more important.
I'm interested in saving money (like everyone else) but I need it to work also. I'm assuming your in the Springfield area where as I am in greater Providence. In the major cities they are equal but the minute you step into the suburbs T-Mobile just plain old sucks.
I was hoping for the network enhancement deployment Humm was telling everyone all the while trying to unload the company.
It's just not worth trying to save a couple of dollars (19 to be exact) to go that route for me but it did have me thinking for a couple of minutes.
For 19.00 more a month I get:
An old fashioned bill, I pay it without worrying about reloading. (I have forgotten a couple of times on the 2 VM lines)
US based customer service that is prompt, professional and speaks English as its primary language.
A great selection of handsets
Great coverage where I need it.
On the rare (I mean very rare) occasion I am without service I can roam (for free) on Verizon if I need to and the Roam Control App makes it a breeze.
Unlimited Data and text with more than enough calling minutes.
I only need one phone.
But it's good that it works for you and that's the beauty of choice. Just hope that AT&T doesn't bury these great plans on prepaid which I do expect them to do.
yes i am in springfield. coverage, voice quality, and data speeds are decent between vzw and t-mobile (i travel to hartford, CT every day, and worcester, MA about twice a month). AT&T and sprint take a far 3rd and 4th place, especially when it comes to in building penetration and consistent data speeds.
i just don't think it's worth the extra $20 a month for sub-par coverage and roaming on 1x, but that's my opinion.
HTC Thunderbolt (daily driver) - Verizon
HTC EVO 4G (backup) - Page Plus
Apple iPhone 4 (now an overpriced iPod) - AT&T GoPhone

i really want to know if this plan can be used on t-mobile 4g mi-fi. i think it only costs around $130, but i can get an android phone for half that price and root it for wireless tether.
and minutes aren't important to everybody. i need them, but i have several friends and family members whose usage is exclusively text/data. between facebook/twitter/oovoo/skype/and unlimited text, a lot of people could get away with such a small allowance of minutes.

That's just your opinion. Some people, like me, use more data and text than voice minutes. Those are the kind of people that this plan is catered towards, and I do believe there is a market for this. But yes, people who talk on the phone more should look elsewhere.
Wirelessly posted (Opera/9.80 (X11; Linux zbov; U; en) Presto/2.8.149 Version/11.10)
There are many plans with a lot of voice minutes and very little of data (if any ). And some of them slowly fade out because no demand. But. the majority are hungry for data .

no not my opinion. i own a cellphone store in a Philadelphia suburb.Philadelphia is one of the biggest markets in USA.i ask every customer if they want data over minutes and only 20 percent of prepaid customers care about data.most customers care about 2 things, minutes and price of the phone. people on a budget rather check Facebook from home not the phone. what you have to realize is people that want data go post paid.i personally think in a couple years things might change.i would never speculate. im going on years of dealing with customers.

Hey Walmart & Tmobile have a new promotion for Free Data between now and 12/31. All new lines will have at least 3 months free 4G data. Existing lines started their free data on 10/01.
Now I"m thinking I really need to switch to Tmobile Walmart deals. Probably you can switch back and forth to the $30 plan later on once the Free data promotion ends. Off course you have to pay more for now $45 for the first line.. Read about this in the Walmart Family Mobile Thread. I just came from Walmart and spotted the promo on a poster...came here..and notices it was being discussed in that thread.
this from walmart family mobile web site
What is the Free Unlimited Web Offer?
Between now and the end of the year, all Family Mobile customers get free unlimited access to the web. That means unlimited email, web surfing, streaming, etc – all at no charge to your WebPak! No balance is required, and during the offer period your WebPak balance will not decrease when accessing the Web from your phone. Use of other services such as 411, long distance and downloads, will continue to be drawn from your WebPak balance.
The Free Unlimited Web Offer applies to all active lines on the account for the duration of the offer, including both established lines and any new lines added during the term of the offer. All lines activated during this time will receive Free Unlimited Web for 3 months from the time of activation, which may extend the free period beyond 12/31/2011. After the offer, Web will be charged at $0.05/MB. To learn more about how to Activate service or Add a line
i don't understand how that is competition to virgin mobile.VM doesn't offer family plans
Why not? If you did not know: the Walmart Family Plan is not just for family. One individual can have it for $45/month and that's it. You do not need an extra person. But you can add an extra person for $25.
But linking both the new $30 plan to this new promo encourages my self to move both myself and my wife to the Tmobile Family Plan. The investment in a new Tmobile phone can be used to take advantage of the promo and later on move to the $30 plan if I need to.
By the way if you did not know ....The Walmart Plan is not necessary for a family. One person can have it for $45 a month.

You probably could have spared that eloquent explanation by saying "Wal-mart is competing by offering things Virgin Mobile doesn't."
i thought we were talking about the new T-Mobile 30 dollar 4g plan while is priced similar to VM plan.45 dollars is 10 more for new VM customers. im grandfathered so its 20 dollars more.no thanks

My thoughts too. I'm on $25 and I get 300 minutes. Granted I don't use it all ever. I definately use more than 100.
