    New Virgin Mobile Competition

    Last week Simple Mobile started $40/mo unlimited 3G data (slow) and unlimited talk & texts.

    This week Walmart & T-Mobile release a $30/mo plan with unlimited 4G data, unlimited texts & 100 mins contract free:

    http://www.tmonews.com/2011/10/t-mob...-october-16th/

    Looking good to me since I don't use that many mins per month

    HTC: Mogul, Touch, Touch Pro, Touch Pro 2, Sensation
    Samsung: Moment, Intercept, Galaxy Note 2
    LG: Optimus V, Optimus Slider
    Tablets: Nook, Iconia Tab, Nexus 7

    oooo. This 30/month plan with walmart and t mobile looks interesting. Now that they've announced prices, I'm just waiting to see what devices are supported on this plan. If it's anything better than optimus slider, I will seriously consider switching over. I may stay for the optimus black, but hey, who knows how long that's going to take.

    Basically ANY unlocked GSM phone will work with these plans...

    Can the iPhone be modified to work on a GSM network? I seem to recall seeing that somewhere.

    If Nexus Prime is released Oct 11 as rumored, I think I'll be buying it off contract and jumping ship to T-Mobile. This new plan from T-Mobile is exactly what I've been looking for as I rarely go over 100 minutes a month and the .10/minute overage charge is very reasonable.

    Well, yes and no. Does your current VM plan have 4G speeds?

    "...the first 5 GB at up to 4G speeds..." That sounds good but the true speeds remain to b seen.

    I do like the idea of better coverage a lot.
    Virgin Evolution: Kyocera X-TC {167ppi}-> Rumor Touch {155ppi}-> Samsung Intercept {146ppi}-> LG Optimus V {180ppi}-> Motorola Triumph {228ppi}-> LG Optimus V {180ppi}-> Motorola Triumph {228ppi} LG Optimus V {180ppi}->-> ???
    Current main device: Asus Nexus 7 32 GB {216}
    My next phone: Samsung Galaxy Note 2 on TMo??? {265ppi} Getting less sure. Leaning towards Nexus 4 {318 ppi}

    The 100 minutes is clearly for someone who almost never uses their phone for calls. I feel like I barely use my phone for calls other than keeping in touch with my wife during the day, and I still hit 150 minutes a month on average. Don't get why they wouldn't do a normal amount like 250 minutes or something.

    I'd have to see some speed tests first. Will they gaurantee 4G speeds.

    T-mobile is done for anyway with all AT&T buying it.

    Yeah, I think that's why Tmobile is coming out with such good plans, no iphone and potential merger makes them fighting mad in the prepaid dept. I say, enjoy it while it's here. But the bottomline is that both the VM BT 300 plan and this are somewhat different enough to consider either. For those grandfathered in at $25, hold on to it.
    For byod choice, higher data speeds and roaming/better coverage the Tmobile one is a better deal.
    For independent dealers , the VM deal is the only choice.

    VM is lucky they decided not to throttle their BT data plans to 2.5 gigs just yet. Tmobile is throttling but 5 gigs at 4g level speeds is plenty.

    This is a BT300 killer if you're a low minute talker for sure and even 300 minutes is too much. Plus you can use voip or other apps like Skype, Google Voice to compensate for the 200 minute shortage and so on potentially.

    It's a great plan, VM is its own worst competition though (raising prices, talking about throttling, doing add on pricing ...etc).

    AT&T already said they intend to cannibalize T-Mobile's frequencies after the merger. I wouldn't invest in anything GSM until the fallout from the merger settles.

    If Sprint gets an exclusive deal on the 4G iPhone, they might actually throw some money at their network. More native Sprint towers means better VM coverage.

    I agree i'm switching at the first oc asion. I will still have 120 days to get back to the 25.00 BT300 if i do nto like it. Tired of low speed from VM and the contant troubleshooting. Had Tmobile for long time with no issues.
