The $30 plan compares to Virgin Mobile's $35 plan except it has 150 less minutes.
Personally, I will be using this plan for my data only devices. $30 a month for 5gbs of high speed data, with texting thrown in (that I won't use).. no brainer vs any other option. The only question is will there be an activation fee (its $25 on Walmart Family Mobile which is also powered by Tmobile). If there is an activation fee then it may not be worth it.
Monthly4G/prepaid historically has no activation fees. WalMart Family Mobile/Postpaid does
LTE has arrived. The third carrier in Las Vegas with 10x10 LTE coverage
Coverage will expand to 100 million LTE pops for the first half of 2013, with the second half of 2013 expanding to 200 million POPs covered. Release 10 LTE (2×10, 2×20) will be better performing than all other competitors.
T-Mobile USA. “This year, we’re stepping on the gas again. We are making continued coverage improvements and launching an advanced LTE network
wondering how good the T-Mobile network is on HSPA??
if it is good, I may jump on this and port my number to Google Voice and then use the data network to make most my calls on GrooveIP saving the 100 minutes for emergencies / when data cap is reached, etc.
I use wi-fi almost all the time so it seems like this setup would be feasible. plus, even if i needed a few extra minutes, it is essentially $10/ per 100 minutes... and I already have a brand new motorola defy (HSPA capable) in hand... ahhh decisions decisions.
if Skype or similar works well on Tmo data, that fixes the voice minutes issue... All wireless voice is moving to VOIP someday anyways...
This would be great for trips of a week or more to the USA.
My question is, will I be able to buy this plan with existing credit I already have on my account? Or would I have to buy the special $30 card from WM to get on the plan?
Would it renew for the second month out of my existing balance?
I like the big data, low minutes. I think this represents the way a large target market segment uses their phones.

The way they put it in the announcement, it looks as though it's being offered only in Wal-Mart stores and online on their site as well as T-Mo's site; nowhere else. But it's a T-Mobile offering, not Wal-Mart Family Mobile. So I wonder if we'll find it on our "My Account" page on web2go through our phones, and be able to select it on the fly like most other Prepaid plans.
Nice offering (if it fits you). I suspect this may shake some things up a bit.
But like any of these newer T-Mobile Prepaid offerings (such as the rumored ones), wouldn't they be the first things to go if T-Mo gets swallowed up by AT&T?
You're right, I just noticed "The plan will be sold exclusively in-store at more than 2,200 Walmart stores and online at www.walmart.com and www.T-Mobile.com and is expected to launch Oct. 16."
So I would assume I can switch to this plan online just like any of the other plans?

This offer is the best offer I have seen from T-Mobile USA on prepaid. If they make those 100 minutes per second now that would be awesome. I read the entire link from OP, It didn't mention anything about picture & or video messaging. I wonder if that would be part of the pacakage.

I am guessing SIMs you buy for this plan will be the only ones eligible for this plan. So there may not be an activation fee, but the question is how much the SIM will cost. And then if we can top off with regular Tmobile PINs.. because buying at Walmart means sales tax, while regular TMobile PINs can be bought without sales tax and a small discount at Callingmart.. which adds up even on a $30 plan.
AT&T has said that people can KEEP their plans after the merger -- even those out of contract. But I really don't believe that courtesy will extend to prepaid users.
For those of us who do everything but talk, it's a deal and a third. I don't guess T-Mo will have an Android phone dedicated to this plan, or can we just purchase one and be done with it?
Is there a precedent for TMo imposing this sort of restriction?
I guess we'll find out on launch date. Either you'll be able to switch to this plan online, or TMo will be selling phones/SIMs online that are preloaded with the plan.

I'm thinking about getting this and dropping Virgin Mobile. I don't use many minutes, like the idea of 4G and all the unlocked GSM phones to choose from. I'll be keeping a close eye on this forum for data speeds and such![]()
Does Walmart have a history of charging E911 taxes?
