100 minutes is so low, even 500 would make it usable and still kill VM $35 plan

The $30 plan compares to Virgin Mobile's $35 plan except it has 150 less minutes.

Personally, I will be using this plan for my data only devices. $30 a month for 5gbs of high speed data, with texting thrown in (that I won't use).. no brainer vs any other option. The only question is will there be an activation fee (its $25 on Walmart Family Mobile which is also powered by Tmobile). If there is an activation fee then it may not be worth it.

Monthly4G/prepaid historically has no activation fees. WalMart Family Mobile/Postpaid does
LTE has arrived. The third carrier in Las Vegas with 10x10 LTE coverage

Coverage will expand to 100 million LTE pops for the first half of 2013, with the second half of 2013 expanding to 200 million POPs covered. Release 10 LTE (2×10, 2×20) will be better performing than all other competitors.
T-Mobile USA. “This year, we’re stepping on the gas again. We are making continued coverage improvements and launching an advanced LTE network

wondering how good the T-Mobile network is on HSPA??

if it is good, I may jump on this and port my number to Google Voice and then use the data network to make most my calls on GrooveIP saving the 100 minutes for emergencies / when data cap is reached, etc.

I use wi-fi almost all the time so it seems like this setup would be feasible. plus, even if i needed a few extra minutes, it is essentially $10/ per 100 minutes... and I already have a brand new motorola defy (HSPA capable) in hand... ahhh decisions decisions.

It's pretty good where there is coverage. I used their "Unlimited talk, text and web" for a month (at the time it was $50 with no limitations that only first 100MB is 3G) in NYC and DC. It was fast enough to browse on mobile phone. I used my Nexus One as an access point for my Droid Incredible on PagePlus. Also tried using it as an access point for laptop (remote desktop, browsing) and it was fine.

if Skype or similar works well on Tmo data, that fixes the voice minutes issue... All wireless voice is moving to VOIP someday anyways...

This would be great for trips of a week or more to the USA.

My question is, will I be able to buy this plan with existing credit I already have on my account? Or would I have to buy the special $30 card from WM to get on the plan?

Would it renew for the second month out of my existing balance?

I like the big data, low minutes. I think this represents the way a large target market segment uses their phones.

    T-mobile Sparq

Bought the new T-mobile Sparq for $49.88 on this new plan from Wal-mart last week to replace my old pre-paid phone. Just put in my old sim and everything came up and works great. I use pay as you go, didn't need the new $30 plan, just the phone.

Can you give us more comparison to other phones you have used? Is the keyboard a 4 or 5 row keyboard (number key row)?

    Thanks

The way they put it in the announcement, it looks as though it's being offered only in Wal-Mart stores and online on their site as well as T-Mo's site; nowhere else. But it's a T-Mobile offering, not Wal-Mart Family Mobile. So I wonder if we'll find it on our "My Account" page on web2go through our phones, and be able to select it on the fly like most other Prepaid plans.

Nice offering (if it fits you). I suspect this may shake some things up a bit.

But like any of these newer T-Mobile Prepaid offerings (such as the rumored ones), wouldn't they be the first things to go if T-Mo gets swallowed up by AT&T?

You're right, I just noticed "The plan will be sold exclusively in-store at more than 2,200 Walmart stores and online at www.walmart.com and www.T-Mobile.com and is expected to launch Oct. 16."

So I would assume I can switch to this plan online just like any of the other plans?

This offer is the best offer I have seen from T-Mobile USA on prepaid. If they make those 100 minutes per second now that would be awesome. I read the entire link from OP, It didn't mention anything about picture & or video messaging. I wonder if that would be part of the pacakage.
