Doesn't look like there is 800MHz SMR support.
That makes no sense.
I do think that CR was after the publicity.
no matter how much hyperbole you use the facts are the facts.
Iphone 4 drops less then 1% more calls then the 3gs. It is more sensitive on fringe areas and allows a more compact design. .55% of iphone 4 owners have complained about poor reception. Iphone 4 has the lowest return rates of any iphone and almost certainly of any phone on the market.
All phones suffer signal attenuation in some situations. Obsessing over the iphone 4 doing it is quite transparent trolling at this point in its history. It is quite obviously a non issue.

No trolling just stating the facts.
You are trying to say it wasn't a problem while most independent testers could replicated severe loss of signal on all of the iphone 4s they tested. This resulted in free bumpers being added to the purchase of the Iphone 4 and a reprogram on how the Iphone 4 was manipulation the signal bars into looking better than they actually were.
This was not just a bunch of blogger blowing it out of proportion. It was many respected tech sites doing their own repeatable test to get to that conclusion.
Once the rubber baby buggy bumpers were added this of course alleviated the situation and that is why the Iphone 4 is only 1 percent worse than the 3gs which had a lot of dropped calls also.

The call drop rates I mentioned do not take the use of a case into account.

With the iPhone4 available for 99.99 does anybody think all those Android phones that Sprint has out will sit on the shelf collecting dust?
The Marquee, the Shift, the EVO 4G, the Conquer, all are at the same 99.99 price point.
Even the Nexus @ 29.99 and a few of the freebies could fall victim to an iPhone.
What's with these out of contract prices? Sprint dumping billions into securing the iPhone its one thing, but I think its a bad move to try and get a strong return on the investment by charging a100+ dollar premium. I was tempted to just swallow the cost before seeing that, not so much now.

Well, in a twisted way, yes. There is one way to hold the phone which will cause signal drops. Will it lead to dropped calls? In areas with weak signal, possibly so. In areas with average to good signal, it will have an unnoticeable impact.
So was it a design flaw? I would say it is. However, it is so easily remedied (holding the phone in a certain manner or using ANY type of case or shield along the antenna) that it should not be an issue to anyone considering buying the phone. If you can afford to spend $100-$400 on the phone, invest an extra $10-$40 in a case of some sort.
Agreed.
nice. sprint's site is already getting hammered; cant even check my bill..
I ordered my Sprint iPhone 4Gs this morning. I live in northwest Oklahoma, an area which is not served at all by Verizon, and I live in the ONLY town in the whole quarter of the state that does not have an AT&T cell site in it. So I am MORE than happy to support Sprint, who does have a tower here and offers roaming on every square inch of this part of the state through Pioneer Cellular. I can't wait!
Slightly modified? Maybe appearance-wise, but I would call a dual-core processor with double the memory, new antenna system, and upgrade to 1080p video camera output to be more than just "slight" among other new features. Yes, some Android phones already have these capabilities, but I'll stick to the iPhone, thank you. Just works for me.
CR was most definitely after publicity. I think they either outright said it or hinted at it as being the facts of the news business. Regardless, they have a long history of faking, or at least severely influencing the setup in order to achieve a result they wanted. Both intentionally and "accidentally." The iPhone antenna thing is actually one of their more on the up and up test things. The especially shady "testing" they do is with cars and car seats. CR is basically worthless for anything but home appliances. I've cancelled my membership because of that (I don't buy that many home appliances).
In any case, I agree that it's both user error and a design error. The thing is, Apple typically designs things in a way to minimize, if not outright rule out, user error. While I'm sure it was accidental, this is more of a "compromise" solution that is typical of... well, everyone else. But the call drop rates speak for themselves. This really was a non-issue except for a tiny, tiny amount of people.
