The non non semiunofficial Optimus Q/Net thread.

Original title was. "The non non non semi unofficial speculative Optimus Q and Net thread." But it wouldn't let me use it.
To many tags? What ever that means.

Hope that title is specifically non specific enough for those who don't like specifically official threads, even thought Net10 has officially announced both these phones.

Ok, so what do we know about these animals. I will borrow some info from a previous post in another thread to start this off.

Net10 Prepares The LG Optimus Q and Optimus Net on their $50 Contract Free Unlimited Voice, Text and Data Plan
by Chris Chavez on October 3rd, 2011 at 10:49 pm

If contract free is the only way you like to roll, wireless provider Net10 is offering up a pair of LG Android devices for their $50 unlimited service. The LG Optimus Q and LG Optimus Net will be hitting Net10 in the coming days and if you’re interested, you can sign up to be notified as soon as these devices are released. Both devices feature 3.2-inch HVGA displays, 800MHz processors, 3MP cameras and running on Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

In case you’re not too familiar with Net10, they are a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) and a brand of TracFone offering both pay-as-you-go and prepaid monthly options. For only $50 you can get unlimited text, data and voice piggy backing on either AT&T or T-Mobile’s towers. Couple this with the MVNO’s first Android powered smartphones and you can save yourself a pretty penny if staying up to date with bleeding edge tech isn’t really “your thang.”
Note the article indicates that these will be running on ATT and or T Mobile for 50.00 a month. So for those who don't like the idea of using Sprint you have another option with a much larger tower area.

    Also there is this
    http://reserve.net10android.com/

It seems we have conflicting reports on this phone, one sight says it has a 5mp camera and another says it has a 3mp cam. Guess we will just have to wait and see when it comes out.
However if it does have a 5mp camera it will be very interesting.
It was thought at the time of the wontek posting that these two phones may be running on either or or both ATT or TMobile but we know now that they are both running on Sprint just like the Straight Talk Androids.

If we can, lets try to find as much info about the hardware as we can on these phones.

Personally I like both these phones because they are LGs. Never met a LG product I didn't like.

There was also this discrepancy about the Optimus Net that was found.

But this is the Net10 phone

Obviously not the same phone. I don't see this version of the LG O N on the LG web sight, MSN Arena or Phone Arena.
    Any one know any more?
Does anyone know what phone this is?
It does not match any search for the LG Optimus Net, and only shows if you enter the words Net10 to the beginning of the search.

It's a shame they have to taint these awesome phones with crappyyyy Sprint prepaid service. Ew. YUCK! I'm never getting a Net10 Android unless it is either on At&t or Verizon.

It would have been nice if ATT or T Mobile would have gotten in on this, but since they didn't people will have to deal with Sprint.
I do think that if stats show Sprint picking up lots of new customers through American Movils MVNOs that the other providers will jump on board and provide service to Androids as well.
I would not expect Verizon to do this.

Still it would be nice to gather as much information as we can find for these phones so that potential customers can be well informed.

Also, if Sprint gains enough customers through these MVNOs they may ( and this may be wishful thinking ) do something about expanding tower presence and improving signal availability throughout the country.

Yeah, hopefully they do improve on their towers and signal. I had a BlackBerry on Virgin Mobile and even though the phone itself was great, the service was crap. I didn't have any signal in my house (where I use my phone the most) and my little Net10 phone does. No use in having a smartphone if I don't have a signal to use the features.

Well, two things will probably keep me from getting either of these (though in terms of phones they're a huge leap in the prepaid world).

    1) Sprint (if that's officially the carrier), and, 2) Forcing the $50 per month plan card.

I use the LG 900 as a secondary phone for Ebay and other things where I don't want my primary number out there. I would have liked the Android slider as a replacement for it, but not if it's Sprint. I live in one of the strongest cell areas in the U.S. (Atlanta) and in my area of the burbs, Sprint is pretty spotty at best with coverage. I also have a buttload of time stored up on the current phone - heck, I could transfer it over and with a simple $15 a month easy plan talk forever - but guess not. Looks like they're going the $50 plan route.

    Sigh.

As long as this thread is so officially non-official, I have a couple of thoughts to throw out as well. First, I can only think of a couple of very weak reasons for someone to go with Net10 instead of Straight Talk for the Q. One would be if they had stockpile of Net10 unlimited cards to use up. The other would be if the Net10 version happens to be significantly cheaper. Other than that, why on earth would anyone choose the Net10 version over the ST version? It's the same phone, same coverage, same everything, except Net10 is $5 more each month, right?

There are several reasons why a person might take N10 over ST. One is the ability to switch to paygo which ST does not offer at all. Another might be because they have an existing N10 phone. If a person wants the new Androids from N10, I can see other carriers being a better alternative. Might as well go to Boost Cdma as they are $50 too and have Androids.

ST does have ATT and Verizon coverage which easily defeats Sprint coverage. We'll see how it goes.

I'd be way more excited if they new Droids could be used on all N10 plans but that ain't happening.

Tmobile is way more friendlier to mixing/matching plans then N10.

Still cant figure that Optimus Net. It is not the phone at GSM Arena or Phone Arena. I also checked the LG web sight and did not find it there. I am wondering if it is produced by another company with the LG label on it like the Triumph was made by someone other than Motorola and Moto put their name on it.

New Android phones as of today have a (TM) designation after the name on the Net10 website. T-Mobile?

Nah, I think that's just supposed to be the trademark symbol.

On another note, Net10 should consider adding 1X roaming on Verizon (or at least roaming on some regional CDMA carriers).

Net 10 can consider it all day but if Verizon won't do it it don't get done.
This is one thing I try to get across to people, AM/ST/N10 may or may not want to do things like this as badly as we would like them to. But Verizon/AT&T/TMobile are the companies in the drivers seat. Their towers are the ones that matter and if they say no to a deal like this or if they have said no to a deal like this in the past AM can't or may not even bother in the future do anything about getting roaming.

My personal travels are limited and I don't need roaming. Personally I feel it is more financially prudent to pay as little as I can for the service I need day to day, and then have a separate phone which works outside my normal stomping grounds that I can use and pay for only when I need it.
