I'll be getting my iPhone 4S this week and I'm looking for recommendations for a case. Something that adds minimal bulk to the phone while still providing decent protection would be ideal.
I decided to just get one of the many fancy screen protectors out there and a plastic or silicone case that protects the back and sides. I couldn't find a wrapsol so I'm pretty sure I'll end up with a zagg again. At one point I just got some cheap belkin screen protectors but they only lasted a week or two compared to the many months offered by my last zagg. It eventually looks like crap or starts peeling but for the price difference vs the cheap ones it's just not worth it. I also don't need a big chunky case that protects my phone if I drop it off a building. Sure I've dropped my phone but it's rarely from more than a few feet. I'm leaning towards a plastic case because most of the silicone ones slowly lose their shape and start attracting lint. I've heard that the physical design is like a white CDMA version of the iPhone 4 which means to me very very very slightly thicker and with the slightly different position of the mute switch. I of course have nothing to confirm this apart from otterbox releasing 4S versions of their cases because they "fit better". Some things to be aware of even if they prove to be false. I'm going to pick mine up right away because I can imagine there will be more choices compared to after the launch.
I really like the Incipio Feather. Very thin and unless you are really hard on your phones, I think the protection is good. I also used the Feather on my BB before I switched to iPhone 4. It also comes with screen protector.

I got most of my iPhone cases over the years from Marshals or TJ Maxx. Just make sure the cases are universal cases that will work with the new iPhone 4-4S. I haven't had to care, since mine was the original iPhone 4 GSM design. The iPhone cases are really inexpensive and some are really good cases for inexpensive.
i've been searching for a case that would give the 4 a more curved, ergonomic feel like the 3gs. one of the things that turned me off to the 4 is the squarish feeling in your hand. the 3GS feels so much better.
I've found three cases that have shown some promise:
A friend of mine has a Speck Case and I must say they are well designed and they are very sturdy. He's really happy with it, and they have some pretty awesome cases.
While I realize this doesn't exactly meet the "minimal bulk" requirement, in my experience, once you have tried a case with a built-in battery (the Mophie Juice Pack Air is a good example), it just feels wrong to use it any other way.

Oh, I had one of those for my 3Gs. Very thin! People usually couldn't believe it was a battery, too. Beats lugging around loose batteries in my pockets exploding and leaking acid!

If you're artsy and like a little bit of color then you can try incase. I like their artistic cases.
I like more of the simple, slick, but still really nice so I buy my cases from SGP. And their screen protectors are pretty good so i just buy everything i need form there.
zagg, otterbox, and speck all seem sorta normal and bulky to me sometimes. :/
I carry my iPhone 4 naked in a Seidio holster clip. I am getting tired of it and want a case that does not add much bulk and feels good in the hands. And also slides in and out of my pocket very easily. I know this case is not ultra thin, but what do you think about the Otterbox Commuter Series? It's adds some length and width to the device, but it is fairly thin and provides good shock protection. I am not that crazy about cases with raised edges, but hopefully I could get used to it.
Dimensions of Otterbox Commuter Series...4.73 in x 2.50 in x 0.55 in
Dimensions of iPhone 4...4.50 in x 2.31 in x 0.37 in
One prequisite is the case must have a cut-out on the back for the Apple logo. The Case-Mate Barely There has a cut-out. What other thin cases have this feature?
