    Did they increase the office phone line? Telus' website says its $55/month.

    And does anyone know if they're friendly to non Small business folk a la Bell?? And if there's any porting in credits involved? ;-)

    Additional office phone lines still show up as $35/month when I view the freedom bundle site right now. Were you looking at a different part of the telus page? Maybe you clicked on the non-bundled pricing section. If you are on the correct Freedom bundle page and it's showing another price for additional lines then what city do you have selected and does the additional line pricing change if you switch cities to like Edmonton, or Calgary? There are still some cities that may not have deregulated pricing yet (I think it requires some minimum level of competitor marketshare before the CRTC allows Telus to charge anything other than regulated rates for local line service). If you are in a city that is still forced to use regulated pricing there might not be anything that you can do about that other than use another company (Shaw?) for your additional phone lines.


    Any individual can still sign up and they will set your account up as if you were a sole proprietor business which is perfectly legit. No actual business registration or incorporation documents would be required in that case. You are considered a business account at that point even if you are using it at home for personal use but there isn't really a functional difference. There are some small differences in the www.telusmobility.com/youraccount self service page between a personal and business account. Also the mobile.telus.com mobile page does not work at all on a business account at this time.


    Porting in credits are something you would have to negotiate on a case by case basis but are possible (There is no explicit policy prohibiting port in Business Flex bill credits for this deal but it would not normally be offered as it's a good deal already so you would likely have to provide some evidence of a competitive deal first). Any bill credit gets added as a feature on the line but does not show up on the bill until 3 months after remaining a customer (to ensure you do not cancel right away). If it takes more than 4 bills to show up you must call in. Sometimes the business rules that are supposed to apply that credit are broken and it needs to be applied manually. One thing I have experience with is they are not supposed to offer this credit if you are getting an iphone so if the system sees an iphone on your account the credit doesn't happen automatically in that case. They will apply the credit manually and then tell you they are making a special exception for you because you were not supposed to get that credit if you were taking the iphone, blah blah blah.

    And I just checked and it does make a difference which community you're in. In Edmonton it's $35 for "home office" but in Lac La Biche its $55.

    Ahh, yes.

    As I understand things the CRTC has price controls in markets where Telus is still the dominant local carrier for legacy phone services. Telus is prevented from charging for unbundled phone lines at prices below the regulated rates to encourage competition in those markets. Once competitors have taken over 25% of the market then Telus can apply for deregulation of their rates.

    Basically if you want to get cheaper Telus landline service then your friends and neighbours will have to help you out by switching to a competitor in sufficient numbers to allow the deregulation conditions to kick in.

    It sucks but those are the rules.

    Guy at the local Telus deal (in a small Northern Alberta town) didn't know anything about the plan or Port-in credits. Told him about it, (compared to what Bell was offering) he called it in and they told him to tell me to call their SB number during the week and they'd set me up. He looked up port in credits in his system and found them, $400 for porting in Voice and Data, $100 for voice. Getting set up next week if they give us the credits.

    Is the $400 port in credit offer still valid? Can you get the credit if you already have 2 line and porting in 3rd line ?
