just a heads up for One S wifi hotspot users. The latest update to Sense 4.1, Android 4.04 disables the option to use the hotspot if you don't have the plan. It will redirect you to the upsell page.

I have a Galaxy S 4G and Exhibit 2... both rooted and on TMO's $30 prepaid unlimited data plan... and do not receive an upsell message when I wireless tether via Barnacle.
Some users have reported even if you use a rooted phone for wireless tether and tether fairly excessively... you will start receiving an upsell message regardless.

Im using HTC One masimuS v2.5 with the latest tmo radio. If i tether and manually shut the screen, it sometimes stops the radio, but if i just leave the screen on and let the timeout dimm it and turn off, i have no problem. I get emails with the screen off usually too. As far as i can tell.
I just tethered using iPhone 5 on my $30 prepaid plan. It works, but I wouldn't wanna abuse If you don't want to deal with Upsale page. They're quick.

I get about 15Mb on speedtest with a galaxy 3s and my 200Mb data plan and I'm just wondering, can I buy another phone
with unlimited data plan and either turn on "Mobile Hotspot", or at worst, tether to a PC acting as a gateway?
I'm sort of thinking about dropping my DSL connection as long as I won't get shot for streaming netflix through
t-mobile. Will this work?
I just checked this phone settings and the APN is epc. I haven't done this in so long I can't
remember what the settings even mean.
Since I'm willing to pay for unlimited data I'm just wondering if I can just do this out of the
box - anyone else done this?
I have Total Internet with 2004 T&Cs. Starting yesterday, all tethering on a TM506 now re-directs to the up-sell web page. Happens with both the EPC and INTERNET2 APNs.
Anyone else encountering this? Does anyone have the T-Mobile text describing the Total Internet Add-On features, which explicitly included phone-as-modem.
I use PDAnet with FoxFi with an unlimited plan non rooted and no problems at all
Life is a tragedy for those who feel and a comedy for those who think.
Up until yesterday, there was no need to disguise my browser with a tool like FoxFi. Using a TM506 as a modem via USB, all worked without issue.
Has anyone else with Total Internet been affected as such, and been able to have TM fix it? Unfortunately, I cannot find any of the marketing literature that accompanied Total Internet.
Using a user agent in FireFox on a PC allows for browsing. Have not found an agent setting the provides a decent browsing experience. Sites do not work all that well with the agent set to Windows Phone IE or Opera Mini.
Not sure how to present my case to t-Mobile if I cannot obtain documentation as to what Total Internet was sold as.
"Up sell" page is now showing up on our HTC Radar 4g's. My wife and I have had the $30 unlimited including tethering and it has worked until last week.
We're now getting the "up sell" page and customer service has no clue (said we need to pay extra $5 a month) and the store employees have no clue (told me to hard reset phone, didn't work).
Don't know what to do now...
Tethering to Windows/Mac with BlackBerry, keep getting "Subscription Upsell Required"
