I have the 4gb+tethering on my att iphone 4 and last month I tethered 2 movies from netflix to pc to tv, streamed pandora 6hrs a day for 10-12 days , emailed, surfed daily and my wife use the laptop almost ever day tethered and a playbook surfing and doing college quizes and my data totaled 2011 MB for the month
It still amazes me when members say they get upwards of 10 GB+

I dumped AT&T for Sprint simply for the fact that Sprint is available where I live and AT&T's service sucks. I did a speed test and got 2.2 Mb download speeds on my old AT&T iPhone 3Gs and 380Kbps with my new Sprint iPhone 4S. Quite a difference but quite usable when you are going from having no service at all to having something all the time.

I think at times we are led to believe (or at least it's marketed so) that we need 10mps+ speeds on our phones.
Since I will never watch a movie on a phone but do enjoy Pandora, GPS, remote security monitoring, a tether once in a while when traveling, and some apps like NFL, Ho-Fo etc, why do I need it? I'll admit I'd be happy to have it.

It's the consistency I'm looking for. I had almost unusable service last weekend and that's what gets me.

Madison WI here, I consistently get .10-.15mbps on download and .01-.02 on upload I can't actually do anything on 3G without being extremely frustrated.

Last time I was in Madison (August) speeds were better than that but it also depends where you were exactly and what is going on. Every tower is different.

    Virgin @ UW-Milwaukee today.

Usually speeds are well under 1mbps there.

A lot of you are lucky bastards. Haven't done a speed test on the 4S yet, but my 4 on AT&T gets 300 kbps if I'm lucky. And that's on the rare occasion I get service. Stupid spotty AT&T coverage. I'm in a good area on their maps too

Was getting 200-300kbps on Verizon with my iPhone 4S but found that my old phone was competing for my data. Verizon fixed it and now I'm getting 400 to 700 Kbps. Not great but acceptable with my grandfathered unlimited plan.

The biggest factor for me in saying my 380k Sprint 3G speed is great is the fact that I get an immediate response. When I used my old AT&T iPhone3Gs and I clicked on an internet link, it would sit there for 5-10 seconds before anything popped up. The Sprint phone is immediate, when I click on something, something happens immediately, and I like that. Downloads may not be as fast, but basic surfing is much faster than my old AT&T 3G service was. Streaming works just fine as well, I don't see any difference or experience any hiccups in an audio stream with the Sprint 4S.
