Posted this in the long BYOD thread, but in case folks are looking at this thread for just speed info, I'll post it here as well. Got activated a couple hours ago and have done a few speed tests. I will say that my speeds are not the high speeds that I was hoping for, although I've only done 3 speed tests thus far, all from home. Previously on VM, I was getting download speeds of between 100K and 500K at home (1Mb to 1.5 Mb at work). On my 3 speed tests I got download speeds of 1.11 to 1.89, upload speeds of .21 - 1.06, pings of 89-328.
Since my VM account is still active, I decided to do simultaneous speed tests. Here are the results:
VM Ping 404, Down 0.78, Up 0.36
ST - Ping 298, Down 2.23, Up 0.46
This is in Concord, NC (outside Charlotte) on an AT&T locked iPhone 4S, at 9:45 PM, and I have 3 bars of service. If I can get 2.23 speeds consistently, I'll be a happy camper. Those are about the speeds that I got on VM when I first got the Beyond Talk plan, but as you can see, they've gone to almost nothing right now.

The other benefit is no more flight-mode crap or constant data outrages like VM.
