On the iPhone, I'd recommend GPS Navigation 2 from skobbler or Navfree GPS Live from Geolife.

They're both based on the OpenStreetMaps project and provide turn-by-turn directions like a nav system and they're both free. They're no Google Maps Navigation, but I'm not a fan of the MapQuest app. Anyway, there are options on the iPhone, but this is one area that Android really wins: GPS navigation. I'm disappointed that Apple hasn't offered their own GPS service considering that I heard they'd bought some companies specializing in mapping.

EDIT: apparently skobbler is now charging $1. I guess I got lucky and got it for free.

Heh, it's a little illogical is it? but I have tried it out and the mapping data came through when google did not on 3 or 4 occasions now. I've kept it as a backup when google come up with no address found. Mapquest GPS app needs some "refining".
