I wonder if putting a case on it would alleviate the problem as with the iPhone 4 antenna problems. I love the screen on this phone, and if I wait for a 4G phone next year and it has a PenTile screen, the wait will have been pointless because I can't stand those. So I'm tempted to give it another week or two before I take advantage of the 30 day policy and see if I can live with it.

This is incorrect, PCD is a middle man company that tests and distibutes cell phones for several companies including HTC. They do not build phones.

Another reception issue. When the phone loses 3G and switches to 1X (i.e. while driving), it seems like a lot of the time I have to either turn off the mobile network and turn it back on (or just wait forever) for it to switch back to 3G once I'm back in a good area. Is that normal?

You can try turning on airplane mode and then turn it back off, this will usually get a phone to switch to 3g if it's available without restarting the whole phone. Will also kick you out of roaming mode faster as well.

Good advice. I have done this in the past on one of my phones and it was better than rebooting.

Not to damper your excitement, but it's also up to the carrier if they want to push ICS to the hero s. For example, Sprint/HTC has pushed an update for the htc loggers on the HTC design 4G, but we (us cellular/hero s) haven't seen such an update (unless someone can tell me different). I hope us cellular/htc follows suit in releasing the update for ICS & the patch htc loggers for the hero s.<br />

oh i know it's up to USCC, but i'd think they'll at least give us 1 update for the hero-s. when i swapped my electrify for my hero-s i asked the sales guy if it'd get ICS and he said yes, it will get the "newest android coming out in a few months" so i'm assuming he means ICS (unless he meant jellybean! hahaha). i left USCC for sprint last february/march so i'm new to android on USCC, i had no clue we don't have OTA software updates (my electrify did though). i really hope we get the patch too!
I don't know where you got that info from I've gotten an ota update already it was small but it was a security update

Bad *** I don't even care about root on this device at this point! I'm tired of always switching Roms. Hopefully we get ICS like Sprints variation of the Kingdom

I don't care about switching roms, but I'm still going to root when I get some time so that I can get rid of the stupid bloatware it comes with. The Daily Perks app is freakin annoying, I dont even know exactly what Zappos is, and there's absolutely no need for a carrier-provided navigation app on a phone that has navigation built in. Might also get rid of the HTC Watch app and a couple others. And, root would be useful if for some dumb reason HTC/USCC don't give us ICS, since I would imagine someone could very easily port the EVO Design 4G rom to the Hero S, considering they are literally identical save the 4G radio. That would be the only instance in which I'd want to switch roms, unless Cyanogenmod is ever made available.

Yeah it'd be nice to not have the bloat and that damn daily perks bs does randomly bother me every couple of weeks. But I don't care I've got plenty of storage space and this phone can handle the bloat. Kinda sick of all the bugs that come with custom roms and always flashing different roms got to be tedious I was never satisfied. Hope they're building ICS for us right now and if not I'll root and throw an ICS rom on my phone

Overall I'm happy with the device despite its reception shortcomings
