    A pre-release thread! Woooo!

Some more good links from the day:

ICS will allow for the disabling of bloatware

Hands on video with Engadget. http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/18/s...exus-hands-on/

They also confirm the LTE version (Verizon) will be a bit thicker than the HSPA+ model shown today.

And Google's Nexus page is live with the new phone.

    Finally the prerelease thread.
I wonder if it is worth selling the Bionic to buy the Nexus?

The two thing that has bugged me in the past about Samsung phones is their cheap plastic feeling, and their not so good signal reception. With the Samsung Droid Charge, it is all slippery and cheap plastic feeling. It was also the only one that continually dropped the 4G signal the most and would stay stuck on 3G, requiring the Airplane mode to be turned on/off to get it to pick-up 4G again. If the Nexus has these issues, I don't care how good the display is or if it running ICS. What good is all that if it can't stay locked on 4G?

    http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/Mo..._id2820/page/2

We should also point out all four of these smartphones from time-to-time would occasionally drop from 4G to 3G (but we made sure it didn’t happen during our testing). What was interesting is that it would only last for a few minutes (at the most) and would return back to 4G, except that the Samsung Droid Charge would stay fixed on 3G and required us to turn the Airplane mode on and off so that it would go back to 4G.

Good points, FAUguy. Maybe I will wait for its release and your review to decide. Release date is mid November?

I noticed that the Press Release says there is 16GB/32GB of internal memory. This *might* mean there will be two versions of the phone, one with 16GB internal, and one with 32GB internal (like on the iPhone). Don't know yet if both would be sold by Version or not. Also, there is no mention of the phone having a microSD memory card slot - but that doesn't mean that it might not have one.

No expandable memory would stink.. Need to hold the device in my hand to see if it's too big.. Ice cream looks awesome.

is there an easy way to load swype on to phones that don't have it built in? I have the droid x and it came pre installed.

You can register for the beta of Swype if you haven't already and generally they invite you pretty quickly.

The SD card hardly bothers me at all. Considering the inconvenience of removing my card now (OG Droid), behind the battery, I don't even remove it any more and just mount it via USB or use DropBox.

Considering I haven't seen many, if any, reports of the SGII doing the radio 4G to 3G drop I'd assume this is something that Samsung has taken care of.

One thing that I find strikingly stupid about both announcements yesterday was how vague the availability was. One of the things Apple always makes sure to do is be very clear about pricing and availability. These guys seemed like they didn't think it was a big issue. I don't understand why they don't think an integral part of a launch is explaining how much it will cost on/off contract and when I can get it.

Yesterday was the launch of the operating system Android 4.0 and the associated developer platform, the Galaxy Nexus. You are thinking about a specific device announcement which is sure to come from Verizon soon.
