    US/INTL Text package 20

I apologize if this question has been previously addressed... However, i'm going to reiterate it even if it has because it could potentially be really cool.

Telus' roaming has always been expensive, however I found out 6 months ago that the US text pack 20 actually made texting while in the US unlimited if you already have texting in your plan. I confirmed this with a partners rep. What i didn't pay attention to, is that it says "INTL" as well in there. I called in to partners, and the rep told me that yes, in fact, this made texting while INTERNATIONAL free. As long as you have UL sms, it will be free internationally. This blows my mind. Does anyone have any insight on this? The partners rep seemed quite confident she was right, even when i said "so hypotheitically, I could be in France and text, with this package, and it wouldn't cost me anything?"

I have no idea whether or not this was common knowledge.. But whatever. haha. Give me your insight if you have any, or better yet, recent testimony.

Yes it's common knowledge. That feature has been around for about as long as the HSPA network has been running so almost 2 years now.

International text anywhere in the world does not cost extra with that package when you send and receive messages to your friends and family back in Canada/USA even when you are roaming anywhere else in the world. SMS becomes the same cost as it would be if you were sitting at home in Canada with that feature added.

We think everyone should be able to afford a wireless phone. That's why we were the first wireless company in North America to offer pay-by-the-second airtime, and why we don't charge an activation fee. NO scary contract to sign. Immediate national coverage. And a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. Yes, it's finally time to get a wireless phone.

Be aware that I spoke to a rep and that will be changing soon. They seem to have realized that they were discounting the domestic rate as well as the roaming rate when people were using texts outside of Canada, where the domestic rate shouldn't have applied anyway.

Currently they charge .60 if you roam, .40 of that is roaming, .20 is domestic charge, so if you have a package, it reduces the rate to .40 for all texts abroad and free if you add the $20 package.

As of the end of November, they will be correcting the system, and the $20 package will remove the .40, but the .20 charge will still apply since you are texting abroad and domestic rates no longer apply.

    So essentially:

    Before the change:

Text package in Canada + $20 Pass = Unlimited Texting

Text package in Canada + No Pass = .40 per text sent and received.

No Text Package in Canada + $20 Pass = .20 per text sent and received.

No Text Package in Canada + No Pass = .60 per text sent and received.

    After the Change:

Text Package in Canada + $20 Pass = .20 per text sent and received.

Text package in Canada + No Pass = .60 per text sent and received.

No Text Package in Canada + $20 Pass = .20 per text sent and received.

No Text Package in Canada + No Pass = .60 per text sent and received.

When I said spoke to a rep, I meant to say he showed me the bulletin he received, as I am travelling out of the country at the end of November and he remembered receiving something regarding SMS rates and travel.

The bulletin said all customers would be notified in November of the change, so check your bills.

@OP - Yup, I've used this pass in conjunction with my regular texting package, and I was able to send over 1,000 texts in Mexico, all free.

@Logical_guy - I really hope you're wrong. I'll be in Mexico November 16th-23rd, and I was planning on buying the text pass again. Do you have exact dates? Or better yet, would you feel comfortable posting a screen shot of the memo?

That would be nice, although I don't think it's feasible, as the US Passes are only applicable for 30 days, and then they fall off. So I added it last month, and it was good until the middle of October; next month I will have to manually add it again before I leave. I like this because I don't have to call in to have the feature removed when I return.

Not likely. Roaming rates are classified as features and can be adjusted with 30 days notice.

is this all that telus offers for roaming? don't they have any adders that include minutes and not just a lower rate?

Looks like the website has already been changed to show the new rates. Telus is going from the cheapest option to text around the work to the most expensive especially the new us rate at .20 per text is a rip off. We shouldn't have to pay $20 dollars to have to pay .20 cents a text

Steven81, that isn't new on the website.. It always said it like that. Thats the reason I didnt know that the us text package 20 would make it free, because the site doesn't take into account your regular domestic text package. I called partners, and they verified that... I have to say, i hope you're wrong, Logical_guy, because as has been said, it would be nice to roam cheaply and still stay in contact. I went to washington for 5 days and came back witha 90 dollar bill... no data. haha.
