Check out qgvdial, it is free in the Nokia store and it works very nice. I don't think you can use voip for Google voice.

I've got a Nokia N8 and would like to switch to the new T-Mobile prepaid plan - $30, unlimited data/text and 100 minutes. I'd like to use VOIP primarily so there is no extra charge for minutes.
Is there any way to configure the built in VOIP client in Symbian with Google Voice? If not, how about an app like GrooveIP or Viber for Symbian?

I think you're right re: Google Voice, if I remember right its against their TOS. I think it has to be accessed via their chat function.
I'm trying to install it now but its stuck on installation - I'll exit and try again
Well I got it installed (had to accept new Terms and Conditions for Ovi store) but I don't think I'm quite getting it to work right. When I'm on the dialer screen, I have the choices:
Dial Back: Mobile
Dial Back: Google Talk
Dial Out: Phone
None of them seems to originate the call over the phone via data, the attempts I've made all dial back or dial a random number which says "you don't have enough credits. goodbye"![]()
Well, no, Google Voice is free for domestic calls. I've never had credits.
OK. I only use it for calling abroad. However I just tested and I called Costo and it worked fine. The only trick is to have the phone numbers in your google contacts preceded with a + (at least when it comes to foreign calls). So my Costco number looks like +1 503 350 5295 or something and once you logged on using qgvdial you hit the contacts icon and select a number, then hit the phone icon.
Google Voice by itself does not do VoIP. You need to have an additional VoIP service, check out and install the Symbian VoIP client, and sign up for a service.
Once you have your VoIP service number, add it to Google Voice, and then you can select it as a call-back number. I don't think you can do the call-out part with the VoIP number, only as a call-back.
Nokia provides VOIP client in Symbian apps and it works fine. But check its compatibility with the VOIP service provider as some VOIP service provider services are not compatible with Symbian OS. Better to go for free evaluation before you sign up with them.
What I have done is gotten a free inbound VOIP number from IPKall.com which routes to my SIP address. I used this number as a Google Voice line. There are a few issues with doing this. You need something that generates long DTMF signals to confirm the GV forwarding. I used an old handheld DTMF generator from the rotary dial days. The IPKall number expires after a month of no use. The quality is not great.
Oh for the days of Gizmo. Everything worked so well with Gizmo.
