I am trying to find Google Voice in the Market but it is not there. Does GV not work with Android 2.3?
I am trying to set this phone up as my new work phone but I can't use it unless I can install and set up GV so that it dials out through GV and displays that number.
I find other GV related apps but not GV and if I log in to my Market acct I see it there but when I pull the Market up on my phone it is not there.
Is there another GV app that is used for Android 2.3? and if so, what is it called?
Thanks.
By the way. I have only had the phone for about two hours, but for a phone that was just under 75.00 with tax. It seems to be a pretty nice phone. Never heard of ZTE as a brand. But it looks good so far.
Ok just found it in the GV acct page. GV is not compatible with the phone?
Confused now.
Now the market says it is compatible with my phone when it wasn't 2 min ago. But I still can't get it to show on the phone.
This app is compatible with some of your devices.
No: Cricket Communications Zte X500
This item is not compatible with your device.
Yes: Mid-Tex Cellular Samsung SCH-M828C
So is there another app for Android 2.3 or is it not 2.3 but the phone?
Is it called the same or is it like GoogleVoice 2.3 or something.
And where would I get the APK? and install it. Never done that before. But I need GV to use this at work so I am willing to give it a try.
I am seeing that this is a known problem with Android 2.3.4 and the GV app. The fix however I have seen is for phones that had the app but lost it on upgrade from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4
I would like to try the APK install if you can point me to the file and instructions on how to do it.
Thanks in advance.
By the way. This phone is very nice for the cheap price. Blows the sox off the Samsung Precedent, and I even think it is a decent phone for the price.
If I can get this one app going on this phone I will probably gift the Precedent to my niece or her daughter.
Found the apk file but can not copy it to my sd card. Keeps saying the card is read only.
It wont download from the sight. Every time I try to download the file it just refreshes the page.
Pointing out that this phone at this point does not do this on any other web sights that I have been to so far.
GV just will not download to my phone. I can call my GV number and it rings my phone but I still can't call out and have it display my GV number.
Is Google working on a fix got this?

No. I could never find a work around and no one had any ideas cause no one posted.
The phone works great other than GV not being available for it. The phone had Android 2.3.4 on it and there is a known issue with A2.3.4 and GV. Still unresolved issue and Google has moved on to newer releases of the OS and just left the problem hang.
I gave the phone to my niece. She loves it. Looked at me cross eyed when I first brought it over to her, I started showing her what it can do, her eyes just kept getting bigger and bigger (she's 30 something LOL) needless to say she is totally sold on it.
For 70.00 at WalMart it is one hell of a deal.
For 69.99 it is a steal. I liked everything about the phone except it couldn't use GV because of the unresolved issue.
But it cost much less than many comparable phones, service cost about the same maybe a little more depending on where you are currently, I would have never thought I would consider Cricket service, but this phone almost had me, just that GV issue.
I use Google voice as a call forward business number to my Optimus (T-Mo) phone and it works well. I am interested in this phone as well for my sales rep and I just need to confirm that if someone calls my G voice number, it will ring the Cricket (as long as I set G voice to call the Cricket number) without issue?
Thank you.
Still need info? I downloaded the .apk file and installed it to my ZTE Score and it only partially works. I can use it for sending SMS through GV via Wifi, but making calls does not work, nor does receiving calls. I've not been able to figure out what may be preventing full functionality.
i originally did a google search to see if anyone else had figured a way around this problem and i ended up fixing it myself. you will need to download the apk file. i had someone send me a link to the download through google talk.
after you've done that you'll need to hop onto your computer and log into your google voice account and change the number connected to your google voice account to your cricket number. google will call the number to verify and they'll give you a two digit code to enter once you get the phone call. after that you'll need to set up voicemail. they'll give you a number to dial and then ask you for your four digit pin number. this is what worked for me. hope this helps!
