    Very Happy With 2G Speed

I am using up the existing balance on my SIM before getting the new 5GB plan. I am impressed with what I can do with 2G speed. I had Boost which can have much higher speeds, but it can also have much lower speeds. Tmo gives me a very consistant experience. Podcasts work as well as skacker radio. Throttling is so much nicer than charging an overage fee.

Have you done a speedtest on your 2G connection? What is your down speed?

To OP, please post. I read that Tmobile has 60k for 2G (Gprs levels). Simple Mobile has 119k as an absolute limit it seems in most cases. We'll see.

Even with 2G, you can still do a lot. I remember when Boost iden came out boasting speeds of under 30k (low gprs) and people were making do and doing well. Same with Page Plus/Verizon Qnc/DUN (10-20k).

Opera mini works wonders apparently...especially on non Bis supported Blackberries.

That's what I'm getting at. I suspect the same, but I like to see some numbers. On virgin mobile, my average is usually Between 300 k and 600 k. But it's also not abnormal for me to get into the sub 200 k range.

EDGE can't beat 300-600k. VM in your area is okay at those speeds. If they start throttling next year at 256k, it's still not too bad compared to 120k Simple Mobile edge. At least it will be unlimited. Beats overage payments.

60Kbps is the throttling point on 3G, not EDGE. EDGE can go up to 200Kbps on an empty sector but speeds slow severely if you are sharing with others.

Speaks for itself, Sprint. Try more actions and not lip service.

I'm on the $50 plan and have run the speed test couple times while being throttled down to 2G speeds. FWIW, I was usually getting right around 120k.

I set my Android phones to use 2G only and consistently get 150k - 220k in the Orlando, FL area. Throttled 4G on the same phone gets me 119k. That seems to be the throttled bandwidth after hitting the cap.

My down speeds are between 110 and 120 kbps. Upload is faster.

My edge and 3g speeds are about the same. Will edge greatly improve battery life? If so I should keep my phone set thatvway until I start using the new plan.

As soon as I run out of the 100MB fast data, I always set my network to 2G. It IS supposed to improve battery life, but I've never actually done any tests to see what the real world difference is.

My latency time is better with 3g rather than edge, but since it is probably too slow for voip, I guess that doesn't matter.

the 2g speed on the $50 plan is quite acceptable. especially if you just want to check email or listen to a podcast or download some news and stock quotes.

I thought EDGE was 236kbps max?

Or are there higher classes of EDGE devices now?

I never broke 230kbps on EDGE.
