You cannot download by OTA updates it will just say server unavailable. Since we are Prepaid and not contract we have to do it by computer.
I will have to wait til I have access to either a better computer or better wifi connection---possibly go down to McDonalds and try it. Mine is just too slow--don't know if it's the laptop or the wifi or both. What benefits did the v5 give the phone?

I dont know. I also have an account on the lg phone forum website. When I asked a question about it Sunday on the LG forums website they said they were trying to figure out exactly what it updated.

I would recommended you also get an account with LG forums because the reps are people who work for LG and you can get an answer by the makers of the phone.

If you need more information about upgrading the LG Extravert here is a YouTube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4b1gF...?v=4b1gFDTnU1Y

I saw that the Extravert is 79.99 at Best Buy now. Not sure if it's a sale or not, because it's said 79.99 for a while now.

Unfortunately my schedule kept me from switching carriers before I needed to refill, so I'm stuck with the Extravert for another couple of months. But given my frustration with this phone, I thought I'd counter by posting how thoroughly bad this phone is.

Security: It's a well-known security principle that unusable security is as bad as no security, if not worse. By that standard, this phone has no security. What it has is a two minute timeout that can't be increased. So turning on the security pin means you're entering it virtually every time you want to use the phone - for any purpose. Or you can lock down calls or messaging - equally useless for a pay as you go plan. I realize that for standard plans, there's a need to prevent unauthorized spending, but on all modern phones and plans, there's a need to protect information - notes, contacts, email, etc. The Extravert fails miserably.

Text entry: It's confirmed from responses on the LG site that there's no way to make T9 the default and no way to erase words that inadvertently get added to the dictionary. With its poor resolution resistive screen, the drop downs for word choices are incredibly error prone. I've had to turn off error correction and completion. When I have two hands available, I'll switch to the QWERTY, not that it's the best. But with one hand, I can enter a message more quickly on my LG420G TracFone (a simple flip phone) than on the Extravert - all because the T9 on the Extravert was poorly designed.

The last straw today: I'm trying to get Mobile Email working again - I haven't used it in about a year. When I start it, I get a message saying that I need to renew - no surprise there. But when I say yes, I'm brought to the info screen for the email app, with no way to add it to the cart. Or I should say that the button for adding to the cart appears for less than a second before being overwritten by the info text and sample screens of the Mobile Email app. My guess is that someone decided to get fancy with the sample screens (probably stock HTML) without testing it on all screen resolutions. Oh, well, their loss.

Oh, some quick pressing managed to let me add a month's worth of email into the cart. But the dollar amount that shows up is $6.99, even though the info screen says $5. Unbelievable.

This is not a bad phone you just don't know how to use it.

Serurity: You are complaining about entering a unlock code everytime you want to access the phone. WHAT DO YOU THINK A LOCK CODE IS FOR. The lock code takes 2 seconds to enter. If you dont like the lock code take it off.

Text Entry: This phone has a QWERTY keyboard why would you want to use T9.

Mobile email has always been $6.99 a month. It was $6.99 when I got the Extravert on 12/29/11. If you like the flip phone better use that. I don't think Verizon cares that you don't like the phone and are leaving because you have already given them money for the phone and the service.

I am liking mine. i mostly talk and text, with occasional quick news check and email checking. i have web based email, so i just go to the site and log in, been working great.

only complaint is the qwerty seems to invite hitting the wrong letter, but not the worst i have seen- it is ok.

A lock code is not there to lock the phone every time I want to use it. It's to lock the phone when I'm not using it. "Not using it" does not mean putting it down for 2 minutes. It also does not mean having to go through a bunch of menus whenever I want to lock it. (Yeah, I could probably add a shortcut to the home screen, but I have enough trouble accidentally hitting the bluetooth on/off icon that I've added.)

Just compare the way the Extravert locking works with the way the iPod Touch works. (I'm pretty sure the iPhone works the same way.)

That's like saying it has a QWERTY, why would I want to use the touchscreen? Or why would did they bother providing T9?

The serious answer is for one-handed texting, which is a fairly common need. That's why I got a phone that I expected to do a good job at both.

Mobile email has always been $6.99 a month. It was $6.99 when I got the Extravert on 12/29/11. If you like the flip phone better use that. I don't think Verizon cares that you don't like the phone and are leaving because you have already given them money for the phone and the service.
I think you missed the point. I don't mind paying $6.99, and yes, I know that's what it was.

What I mind is having notices that quote one price and then being charged a higher price. And that's not even a bait-and-switch thing; I'd expect Verizon to refund it if I complained. It's a quality thing. This isn't like a supermarket flyer, with prices and sales changing weekly. They just need to get it right once, and it doesn't take a genius.

And actually, I'm sure they do care. Their core business isn't manufacturing or selling phones; it's selling the service and getting the regular income, whether it's monthly, quarterly, or yearly. Service businesses don't care about last quarter; they care about keeping and growing their client base next quarter.

I recommend buying a touch screen protector for this phone. The screen scratches pretty easily. Silly me, I didn't have one and I had the phone on my lap in the car, then I forgot about it and got up and the phone fell on the asphalt...now it has a tiny little ding on the left side of the screen. Tried rubbing it off and it didn't work :/ Sighhh lol

I, too, cannot buy the Mobile Email app because of this same "bug". The button to buy/add to cart does not appear for me.
