OFFICIAL: T-Mobile Exhibit II prepaid reviews/thoughts

I thought I'd start a thread for reviews since that's what a lot of us are looking for. I just picked one up today at WalMart. Had a hell of a time trying to check out - the IMEIs weren't in their system so after going through all 7 phones in their inventory the guy asked his manager if he could sell it without activation. The manager said they're not supposed to but we had been waiting a LONG time so they let it go just this one time. We're using our postpaid SIM cards in the Exhibit II so the prepaid kit doesn't matter to us.

    Onto the phone!

It's SMALL compared to my Galaxy S II (obviously) which is kinda nice. It's about the size of the Optimus V but with a bigger screen - perfect combo. Build quality is very good and the screen is NICE. My Optimus V had a very nice/bright screen and this one does too.

    Quick points:
    - WiFi tethering is blocked via 'Tethering Manager' which is a running service in the background. My Galaxy S II is the same. I use Easy Tether Pro for USB tethering.
    - I'm showing 1.0GB free internal memory for apps (nevermind the Optimus V w/ 150MB!)
    - WiFi calling is preinstalled and works well (uses minutes of course)
    - Camera is just 3 MP but it does have touch to focus, flash, and you can turn the shutter sound off. VGA video recording only.
    - The processor is "only" 1GHz single-core but it's pretty fast. Apps install very quickly.

Any questions, feel free to ask. I attached a few pictures from the camera. One macro and one regular, I know someone was asking about picture quality. Just FYI, my current phone is a Galaxy S II and my previous phone was a BlackBerry 9700 + VM Optimus V.

Castrol EDGE 5W-30 is my drug of choice.

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
One of the deal breakers for me is. VGA video recording only. Its a shame they gimped the camera like that. 5MP/720p really isn't too much to ask at this point I don't think.

Yup. Or just pay the overage which isn't so bad at 10 cents per minute.

Purchased the phone, couldn't help my self.
I can honestly say this phone is everything I hoped the Triumph would be.
Everything works and it works well. Between the Precedent and the Exhibit 2 4G I am thinking that maybe some of Samsungs phones work well after all.
I believe it is running the latest cell Android either 2.3.5 or 2.3.6 don't remember. Smooth, snappy, the one down side was it took almost 24 hours for the data to start working. Did the wifi thing until it did and put all my apps back on the phone, GV works on it where it didn't on 2.3.4.
    Just a great phone.
The 3 mp camera works fine for me and a bonus was the front facing camera that I didn't know was there or did not remember was there.
I highly recommend this phone to anyone who is considering it.
Now I just need to sell off all my other phones, and hope that VM will do a ROM update on the triumph some day. It would be nice to be able to use it or sell it as a working phone in the future.

    I give the Exhibit 2 4G 5 out of 5 stars.

By the way Island Boy, That first picture is great. A larger version of it would be a perfect wallpaper for my sister.
Do you by chance have one that is wallpaper size?

It's $249 on TMobile.com and $199 at Walmart. Just search for Samsung Exhibit on Walmart's webpage and it'll show up.

Yup. 199.00 at WalMart. and a 50.00 card to activate first months unlimited service.
TM has 3 pay levels of unlimited service, 50, 60, and 70. The differences are in how much 4G data you get before it drops down to 2G speeds.

I think Exhibit II is the best android phone under $250.00.

I like the Price, Display Size, Processor speed, Built-in memory and T-mobile's 4G speed.
and also it allow Wi-Fi Tethering.....

    and one more thing,
the Exhibit II has AT&T's data Frequency 850Mhz.
that means you can use AT&T 3G or 4G service if the phone is unlocked...

On mine it takes a few seconds for the thing to connect but once it does it loads very quickly.
I only have 100mb of 4g data so I figure I will hit the 2g throttle soon. I have heard that TM 2g is about as fast as Sprints 3g. If that is true. The 50 dollar plan should do me nicely, 3g speeds are fine for me so the 100m 4g will be a small bonus at the beginning of each month.

Can someone comment on the camera shutter speed? After you pre focus, how long does it take between the time you take your finger off the button to the time it actually takes the picture?

The optimus v is very slow in this regard. And I'm hoping the 1ghz processor in the exhibit 2 will speed this up a bit. But I'm not getting my hopes up.

I don't get hung up on megapixels, but shutter speed is what makes or breaks a cell phone camera for me.
